With the data centre industry growing significantly, demand for energy is skyrocketing. This creates a dilemma between ecological objectives and the need to increase the power we consume to support AI-based applications. This episode will be an eye-opener if you want to understand why the focus on efficiency is not enough without a genuine green energy production strategy.
The #DataCentre industry is at a crossroads, facing a power dilemma that efficiency improvements alone cannot fix. It's time to tackle the root of the #Sustainability issue and explore new options for digital adoption and more #Renewable power. Catch up with our Ciarán Forde's and DatacenterDynamics' conversation on how we can influence policy for a greener future and help to bridge the gap until our grids catch up. https://bit.ly/3Mj4CyU

New Data Centre Platform GreenScale Data Centres Launched by DTCP This week, GreenScale, officially launched with plans to deploy 170MW of capacity across strategic sites in Derry, Northern Ireland, and Donegal, Republic of Ireland. They are also looking at an additional 300MW in the Nordics, marking a significant expansion of DTCP's footprint in the data centre sector. Daniel Thomas, who previously held roles at AtlasEdge and InterXion, shared, "GreenScale's vision is to design, build, and operate over 1GW of capacity across Europe, enabling the industry transformation needed to provide AI, cloud, and high-performance compute environments to our customers in a sustainable way." This vision underscores the company's commitment to leveraging alternative energy sources and contributing to renewable developments, which will benefit local communities. In Northern Ireland, GreenScale has already begun collaborating with local utility companies, governments, and renewable energy providers to ensure a robust power supply. "We have started collaborating with local utility companies, governments, and renewable energy providers to ensure a robust power supply to the site," Thomas noted. This initiative is part of GreenScale's broader goal to actively participate in the development of new offshore and onshore energy sources, enhancing the local grid. Adding to the excitement, the team includes experienced industry professionals such as Ian Hammond as COO, Jean-François Berche as CTO and Anna Carolina Dowson as Senior Director of Sustainability. The launch of GreenScale is set to meet the growing demand for sustainable data centre capacity, which will support the exponential growth of Cloud and AI infrastructure. #DataCenter #Sustainability #DataCentre

It was great to spend a couple of days with our investors in sunny Amsterdam for our European Symposium. I had the pleasure of moderating the infrastructure panel. One of my favorite aspects of Infrastructure is that everyone can relate to it. This was certainly the case with our audience, who asked great questions about the future of #DataCenters and how battery technology might impact #EVCharging. These were expertly answered by our fantastic panelists Stephen Dowd, Andreas Köttering, Tania Tsoneva, CFA, and Tom Dobson. #CBREIM #Infra2.0 #Digital #EnergyTransition #SustainableTransport

FLAPS-D or FLAP-DS? Either way, apparently the hub needs to expand! Scotland has all of the attributes to become one of the go-to choices for data centres - true or false? We know there is access to a cooler climate... Higher than average share of renewable energy available! Operational costs could be up to 70% less compared to other markets? What do you think? #DataCentre #DataCenter https://lnkd.in/euRfW3ue
Is Scotland emerging as the next big data center market?
