Most of you know me as a filmmaker, but for the past three years, I've had the pleasure of working at Picture Head, the world's largest trailer finishing company. I was brought on board to launch their first-ever Premiere finishing division. Building a global team from scratch has been an absolute blast. We crafted a new workflow and landed Amazon as a major client. If you've seen trailers for Lord of the Rings, Arcane, or Air on your TV or smartphone, that's likely our handiwork. The folks at Picture Head are truly top-notch at what they do. I've honed some new skills you wouldn't typically associate with a documentary director, like integrating a global workforce, designing a communication system for 300 employees, streamlining financial workflows, and developing a post-production pipeline that churns out hundreds of files daily. With the pipeline now running, the job is complete. It's an interesting time out there, so I'm open to many things. I'm searching for documentary work, but I also have a lot of knowledge in post-production, corporate optimization, and even launching a business. Have something in mind, I'd love to hear it. #Filmmaker #Documentary #PostProduction #CorporateOptimization #BusinessGrowth #Collaboration #NewOpportunities

Which role got an edge over the other in the real-world organization? To find an answer to this, let us make a few comparisons. 1. Consider that the project you are working on is equivalent to a new movie being filmed. 2. Sponsor/ Board is equivalent to Producer. 3. Product owner is equivalent to a Director. 4. The infra team is equivalent to a Cinematographer. 5. The testing team is equivalent to Editing. 6. Developers is equivalent to Lead Actor/Actress. With the above scenario, no role can be ignored, and each role has its unique skill set to showcase. If all of the above roles are performed without bias and with utmost dedication, the movie will perform better at the box office (Project Market). If you concentrate only on commercial aspects, eventually, the actors will be paid more because they have the potential to pull the crowd for the movie. All of the above scenarios are equally applicable in the project environment. Each role is hired to play its unique part, and no one has the upper hand in the project. It's just that the roles, skills, and responsibilities are meant to get different. Like Actors, Developers will eventually get paid more, but that doesn't mean that role is more potent than others. Choose your career path wisely because you will have a minimum of 35 years to perform your chosen role. Unless you enjoy the role, you cannot be someone for that long. #productdevelopment #productowner #developer #jobs #fresherscareer #productmanagement

Helping the VFX, Film and TV Industry Create Multiple Sources Of Income So You Can Choose To Work & Not Have To Work. Passionately Redefining the BS Work-Life Balance by Breaking Free From Society's Default Settings
No jobs till next year for the VFX, film and TV industry! Apparently... Except I'm seeing loads of studios hiring for a variety of projects. Staff celebrating new roles and new contracts, all over my feed. What you choose to believe shapes your life. (And also shapes the social media algorithim lol) Right now you can chose to believe there are jobs and you can get a contract in the next month or you can choose to believe you have to wait till 2025. I do believe the industry is unstable. This belief made me take action to create other streams of income so when these times happen I don't get stressed about survival! Once you have a stable income make sure strikes, short contracts and the instability of the industry never effect your home life in a negative way again and build those mutiple streams of income!

Companies are slowly starting to ramp up hiring.. THEY TELL. Reality is I'm being told fairy tales which seems like jokes at the moment. Companies, small and big, are probably thinking we'd get along with anything given how (unfortunately) desperate a lot of us are, which from one side makes me giggle and from the other pisses me off so much. After 3 years of fully remote work which seemed to be the future of our industry, people until now have asked me to: - Relocate to another city and go through convoluted burocracies to get my invoices sorted. - Relocate while requiring the opening of a self employment account in their State solely for the purpose of being paid for given task, for a limited amount of time. - Being asked to relocate for a long amount of time while offering you slightly more than half of what you're currently invoicing, asking you to learn a totally different software, not even helping you out in providing a temporary accommodation in a very expensive area. - Being verbally abused and insulted during work. I'm not trying to mock anyone or witch hunt here, I don't have time for this... I'm just trying to say, do you hear yourselves when you ask people to accept certain things? Would you really do it in their stead? Doubt it. And we're in the middle of the year. Let's see how many jokes do I have to endure before someone is legitimately requiring a serious person for #nuke #compositing #work Speaking of which, did I tell you I've got almost a decade of experience in many fields of #vfx? Yeah. Commercials, marketing, tv shows, movies, short films. Roto, cleanup, tracking, grading, body warps, deaging, keying, CG compositing, dmp.. You get it. Are you serious about hiring? If so, text me, because I'm serious too 😉

Tech Founder @ whatifi.io and VFX Leadership | Data-Driven Decision Making | Raising Angel Investment
People. Pay. Projects. Pipeline. The four “P”s. These are the four levers that drive the #decisionmaking process for an artist on where to work, whether to stay at a company, or seek out new opportunities. Current day, obviously, most laid off #vfx artists are prioritizing simply finding an opportunity. But when things rebalance, these are the factors that artists are weighing. In the past, especially in the height of the CoVid supply-and-demand days, artists had options. Recruiters constantly reaching out. Folks would look around their current company and do a napkin math assessment. “Love the people. Projects are okay. Pay is okay. Pipeline? Meh.” “Pay is fantastic. The projects are the sh*ts. Pipeline is fantastic. People… overworked and poorly managed.” The easiest decision was no decision. Opting to stay put out of job security or comfort. Fear of the unknown. Many a middling studio survived and thrived. In this next wave, things will be different. For the average experienced artist, there will be plenty of opportunities. The people you used to work with aren’t there anymore. That culture piece, especially with WFH, will be a non-factor. How good is their pipeline? Is the pipeline team even still around? What kind of projects do they get? You always wanted to work on something A-list. Something memorable, as opposed to season 5 of “insert show name here”. Maybe it is time to test your mettle on something more challenging. The flipside challenge for studios will be how best to ramp up. It was hard enough building a team in the CoVid days. Now they have to rebuild (and deliver). Assembling teams that have never worked together, in pipelines that have stalled. It takes time for a team to find a rhythm. You can pair the best VFX Producer with a seasoned VFX Supervisor - but there is no guarantee that there will be creative chemistry. Actually, there is a fifth “P” to consider. Quite possibly more powerful than the other four combined. It is something that can’t be measured. There is no dollar value. It is more of a feeling. A sense you get in an interview. The way that management communicates their vision. Potential. The “why”. That sense you get when interviewing that this company has a long-term plan to grow a team, build a brand, and create an environment where artists and leadership can grow their careers. As you embark on this next phase of your career, remember the five “P”s. People. Pay. Projects. Pipeline. And most importantly…. Potential.

Venture Building | Startup Studios | Private Alternative Funds | GP Stakes| Venture Capital | Real Estate | ALTS for all
I don't know of any Startup Studios that do this, but it's something that I've been considering for years. Investor committees. Kind of like board members but for different aspects of the Studio's operations. For instance, the biggest tasks of the Studio are funding/raising on the port co level and hiring CEO's to take over the port co's. So, you'd have a fundraising committee where a board of peer can help the Studio with resources, ideas, referrals, intros etc. Then you could have an executive hiring committee offering the same type of help for hiring CEO's and putting together boards for each port co. 1. I wonder if big check writers at the Studio Hold Co. level would be interested in being this involved? 2. Does the democratization of Studio Ops like this work or is it a case of too many Chef's in the Kitchen? 3. Why build a committee when the Studio can just hire 1 person for each of these roles? I'm on the fence about this approach, so I'd like to hear what you all think.

🎬 How is hiring a film production company different to hiring another service? I had some interesting comments in reply to my post yesterday on the rules for hiring a production company. 💡 Many people thought that these were no different to hiring any company. This was interesting, so I'm digging further and looking at some differences. I hope this is of help. 🚀 DM me if you would like a proven strategy and process to follow when you hire a production company. #business #marketing #videoproduction
