Feedback from the Field: Q: Is #Security a good place to be? I've had this question 3 times recently from sales reps I talk with. My response: Good choice: Security isn't going anywhere. Clients have needs, will spend $$, lots of competition for jobs given 2023 / 2024 layoffs, ++ Better choice: Invest in yourself. #Sales skills are portable. Limiting yourself to Security limits opportunity. Be a Sales Rep 1st - your ability to solve problems is a universal skill in demand by many. Sales is a profession - treat it like one - it's easy to be average. Being a top performer will change your family tree! #Sales #Career #Advice

🤔 Why is sales recruiting this hard? Mainly, because there just aren't enough salespeople. Period. Even with recent layoffs, the number of open positions still far exceeds the number of people working in the market by a factor of 4. 3 key reasons: 1️⃣ No educational path for sales: not at university, not as vocational training. If it's not being taught, people can't learn it. Nor develop it as desired career path. 2️⃣ Bad reputation: People still think of Wolf of Wallstreet and sleazy used car salesmen. They are deterred from outdated, preconceived notions. 3️⃣ No access: There are many talented people, but they just don't know how to break into careers like tech sales. 🤯 On the other hand, 1 out of 5 has the right soft skill combination required to be successful in sales (Princeton study). Ergo, we need to bring more people with the right kind of soft skills into (tech) sales. When we do, it's absolutely critical to enable them with the necessary (hard) skills to be successful.
