Recently I attended the NATO Joint Support And Enabling Command (JSEC) conference on “Enablement as a Whole-of-Society Endeavour” as a part of the UK StratCom Support Operations Team. It was great to see that the conference initiated much needed discussions - with industry and academia- revolving around building bridges between civil society, commercial logistics, and the military and security sectors—a critical effort in ensuring national and collective resilience. Especially since I explore this in my new article in the British Army Review for The Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research. It is titled “Strategic Logistics- A New Train of Thought” which underlines that whole-society collaboration is essential to enable and sustain national defence capabilities. Overall it highlights that it is imperative to rethink strategic logistics to assure speed - agility - dispersion and explores both past and present lessons from the Falklands to Germany’s recently published “Framework Guidelines for Overall Defence”.

Strengthening Readiness and Interoperability in the Indo-Pacific! Insightful article on "Generating Readiness, Interoperability in Indo-Pacific through Operation Pathways." The piece underscores the critical role of Operation Pathways in enhancing the U.S. Army's strategic, operational, and tactical readiness in the Indo-Pacific region. At the recent AUSA symposium, leaders from the U.S. Army Pacific Command (USARPAC), First Corps, and Eighth Army shared their experiences and strategies. Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane emphasized the importance of building joint and combined readiness through multilateral exercises and strategic engagements. This initiative not only strengthens our defense partnerships but also ensures we are prepared to dominate any future conflicts. Key takeaways: - Multilateral Exercises: Over 40 exercises with 12 countries, including: - Exercise Talisman Sabre: A biennial exercise with Australia focusing on high-end warfighting scenarios. - Exercise Cobra Gold: One of the largest multinational military exercises in the Asia-Pacific region, co-hosted with Thailand. - Exercise Balikatan: An annual exercise with the Philippines, enhancing combined interoperability and readiness. - Exercise Yama Sakura: A bilateral exercise with Japan, focusing on the defense of Japan and regional security. - Strategic Engagements: Building and sustaining combat-credible forces in a dynamic region. - Historical Lessons: Applying lessons from past conflicts to modern-day challenges. Operation Pathways is a testament to the U.S. Army's commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
