Recently I attended the NATO Joint Support And Enabling Command (JSEC) conference on “Enablement as a Whole-of-Society Endeavour” as a part of the UK StratCom Support Operations Team. It was great to see that the conference initiated much needed discussions - with industry and academia- revolving around building bridges between civil society, commercial logistics, and the military and security sectors—a critical effort in ensuring national and collective resilience. Especially since I explore this in my new article in the British Army Review for The Centre for Historical Analysis and Conflict Research. It is titled “Strategic Logistics- A New Train of Thought” which underlines that whole-society collaboration is essential to enable and sustain national defence capabilities. Overall it highlights that it is imperative to rethink strategic logistics to assure speed - agility - dispersion and explores both past and present lessons from the Falklands to Germany’s recently published “Framework Guidelines for Overall Defence”.

“This exercise has grown over the years since 2004, not only in the number of multinational service members we train with but also in the scope of the training, which has expanded beyond just security,” said Gen. Michael Langley, commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of #AFRICOM’s premier and largest annual, combined, joint exercise #AfricanLion. With more than 8,100 participants from over 27 nations and contingents from NATO, #AL24 focuses on enhancing readiness between the U.S. and #partner nation forces. This joint all-domain, multi-component, and multinational exercise, employs a full array of mission capabilities with the goal to strengthen interoperability among participants and set the theater for strategic access. From Strategy to Action: collaboration Between NATO’s two strategic commands ensures future readiness. Admiral Joachim Rühle, Chief of Staff of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), recently visited NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in Norfolk, Virginia and met with his counterpart Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Guy Robinson CB OBE to discuss key areas shaping #NATO's future. This visit highlighted the critical collaboration between NATO’s two strategic commands in ensuring NATO’s military preparedness for the future. Multi-Domain Operations, the Cross Domain Command Concept, and the NATO Defence Planning Process were key topics discussed during the visit.
