After hiring over 1000 CDL-A drivers, I can verify that one of the most important things is to lay out the crucial information at the beginning of the call and also ask key questions right away. This ensures you don’t waste time talking and can quickly assess if a driver and a company are the right fit for each other. #truckdriverrecruiting #cdladrivers #cdl #trucking #ustrucking #cdladrivers #Recruiting

🚚 As a commercial truck driver, you'll come across various codes on your Commercial Driver's License (CDL). These include not only endorsements, but restrictions to your license. These codes, known as CDL A restriction codes, determine what you can and can’t do with your license. There are 8 common types of Class A CDL restrictions: - L restriction – No air brake equipped CMV 💨 - Z restriction – No full air brake equipped CMV - E restriction – No manual transmission equipped CMV - O restriction – No tractor-trailer CMV - M restriction – No Class A passenger vehicle - N restriction – No class A and B passenger vehicle - V restriction – CMV medical variance required - K restriction – CDL intrastate only 🛣️ Why do CDL restrictions matter? Understanding and adhering to CDL restrictions is important for several reasons: Employment opportunities: Restrictions can limit the types of jobs you can take. If you want more job opportunities, it can be smart to remove any restrictions. Getting rid of restrictions shows you have more skills, making you a better choice for more employers Safety: Restrictions help make sure drivers are only operating vehicles they are proficient with. This helps keep the roads safer. I challenge any carrier out there to show that you offer the training that we do for CDL holders, new or experienced. We hire a ton of new CDL holders right out of school. Not because of costs savings, but as drivers get experience, they tend to get complacent. So hiring newer drivers, they tend to have less bad habits to break. One of our policies is absolutely no phone usage while driving, whether hands free or not. We use AI cameras that detect it. This is the one policy that tends to get a lot of drivers. When we hire a new CDL holder, they will be in training at a minimum 90 days. After 90 days, if they are close but not quite there, we will give them another 30 days. Then, when we cut them "free", we make sure for the next couple of weeks that they mirror another driver. I will have them follow another driver to deliveries. For experienced drivers, they will be in training for up to 60 days. I have paid for 2 guys to go to school as I thought they fit with our company culture but simply could not afford to go to school. They trained for us during the day, and took classes in the evening for 3 months. Then when they graduated, were in training an additional 45 days. In 6.5 years, we have had 4 accidents. Only 1 was by a new driver that was put in a bad situation by our previous Ops Manager. He was given an overweight 20' container, sitting on one of our triaxle chassis, but never told/trained to extend the chassis to 40' to make it more stable. Another accident was one of our guys that has 30 years experience. He was cut off in a no passing zone by a grain truck. The third accident was a pool chassis that had a hub fail and at a stop light, the tires broke off and rolled to a van sitting at the opposite corner and cracked her bumper. And finally, the 4th accident was me pulling up to a stop light and someone not paying attention pulled out of a truck stop and ramming the side of my truck. Is there any carrier out there that comes close to the training we offer?

Considering becoming a HGV Driver? HGV driving is not usually a 9-5 job, and you could find yourself driving anything from an 18t rigid lorry to a 44t articulated lorry with a trailer. HGV drivers have a variety of responsibilities; planning routes, unloading and loading their vehicles, taking inventory. There is a lot more to HGV driving than just sitting behind a wheel. The type of goods you deliver can be anything from groceries to building materials, medical supplies and household items. The list is almost endless.
