Last week, we had a very enjoyable meeting with officials from the European Council. 🤝 We discussed various aspects, including addressing the green transition and the business agenda, and engaged in a deep conversation about future strategic priorities. 🌍💼   CLG Europe believes in the value of collaboration and keeps a constructive spirit when engaging with EU institutions. Special thanks to Max Lauretta & team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Toronto chapter, for hosting me a few weeks back (AKA: The Trade Council of Denmark in North America - Energy and Environment). We had a great discussion on “Breakthrough Strategic Narratives” that drive both commercialization and fundraising strategies for impact focused startups. One area that seemed to peak their interest was Richard Chin’s Zone of Impossibility. Richard states: “There is a zone of impossibility, where something is so hard that people think it’s impossible but is possible. And where you automatically get a moat of defensibility once you achieve it.” I love this theory. It’s what we look for from the innovators we work with. Both Patrick Murphy/Stephane Turbide from Maket (Techstars '21) and John Rathbone/Mairead Kennedy from Rathco ENG are demonstrative of this. The Danes are as well: Copenhagen ranks among the most ambitious cities in the world when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions...The results are spectacular - between 2009 and 2022, the city reduced by 80% its CO2 emissions. (Source: Planete Energies - 03/07/24) Denmark’s dedication to pioneering climate policies and its important role in the advancement of renewable energy production have again solidified the country’s top position on the Climate Change Performance Index. (Source: State of Green - 12/12/23) I bet 15 years ago many viewed these ambitions as impossible.
