"We're not growing as fast as we'd hoped." This theme has been coming up in many conversations I've had with leaders across various industries. When I ask about their marketing team's focus, the answers vary widely, from very tactical initiatives to grand brand recognition. There are a number of reasons why companies face growth challenges, but it can stem from a lack of a clear marketing strategy, balancing short-term initiatives and long-term goals. If your marketing team is chasing quick wins—like filling up your pipeline with leads—it becomes constantly reactive and loses sight of the bigger picture, such as building lasting brand impact. On the other hand, if they are focused solely on building strong brand authority, they may be neglecting the immediate needs of your sales cycle, like demand generation and conversion. So, how do you fix it? It’s all just a balancing act! Build a strategy that links every marketing initiative to a business objective, ideally through OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). By doing so, you ensure that every marketing effort directly impacts one of your goals, addressing both quick-win tactics that boost your numbers now, with big-picture strategies that build your brand for the long haul.
