Some hardlines retailers could face elevated costs and delays due to conflict on the Red Sea, according to a Jan. 10 note from Jefferies analysts led by Jonathan Matuszewski, CFA. Armed conflict on the Red Sea has slowed ocean shipping in the region as carriers avoid the Suez Canal, forcing many shippers to find alternative routes or sources to avoid the trade lane. But not all shippers have the same level of exposure. Among retailers, Wayfair, RH, Beyond Inc. (formerly Overstock) and Best Buy face elevated risk, as opposed to The Home Depot, Lowe's Companies, Inc. and Tractor Supply Company, which source more domestically. #supplychain #disruption #redsea #shippers #procurement

"Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero said April numbers will show trade flows coming to the US West Coast are continuing to strengthen. “You’re gonna see that our volume from April is is higher than any month that we’ve had this year in 2024,” Cordero said in an interview." In 2020-2022, we saw retail peak season shipping move up earlier in the year as companies scrambled to bring in product. After last year's muted peak, are we seeing retailers begin to restock on a more notable level? https://lnkd.in/gnnqqu39 #internationalshipping #supplychain #logistics #socal #transportation

An interesting article…. It leads to two questions; 1. How long will this go on for, and 2. Should European retailers pass the additional supply chain cost on the consumer….?? #europe #supplychain #redsea #retail #inventorymanagement #seafreight

I have spotted this comment from Rusty Morris in below article today, https://lnkd.in/eN-mj7jy “Growing rates are definitely a concern,” said Rusty Morris, vice president of sales at American Woodcrafters. “I don’t understand why there is such volatility. It’s a world I definitely wish I understood better." Even the most seasoned logistics veterans often find it challenging to explain every price movement and how trades are interconnected. The key feedback we've received from our customers highlights the critical need to monitor both short-term and long-term market movements in real-time, anytime. Why it matters: - Real-Time Insights: Stay updated on market dynamics as they happen. - Strategic Flexibility: Adjust procurement strategies on the fly. - Understanding the Impact: Recognize how black swan events and new trade tariffs affect pricing. With prices being influenced by unpredictable events and shifting trade policies, it's clear that these complexities aren't going away anytime soon. #xeneta #oceanfreight #transparency #strategy #benchmarking
