In a study involving over 28,000 students, those from higher-ranking universities performed only slightly better than their peers from less prestigious institutions on consulting projects. Specifically, a Yale student was just 1.9% better than a Cleveland State student in terms of work quality and #collaboration. Furthermore, a meta-analysis of 44 studies, encompassing over 11,000 individuals across various #jobs, revealed that prior work #experience had virtually no impact on job #performance. In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, relying solely on traditional #hiring processes may no longer be the most effective approach. Traditional methods, such as reviewing #resumes and past #experiences, are widely used, but do they truly help us identify potential #talent, especially considering the ever-changing #skill requirements? The evidence is clear: traditional hiring methods may not effectively uncover the true potential of #candidates. So, what is the solution for finding the right talent? The answer lies in transitioning to "Skill-Based Hiring". Skill-based hiring focuses on assessing a candidate's actual skills and capabilities rather than their credentials or past job titles. This approach ensures that you are selecting individuals who can perform the tasks required by the role, regardless of their background. For example, Arctic Shores has successfully offered skill-based hiring solutions for leading organizations such as PwC, Siemens, and Travelex. Robert Newry recently released a comprehensive guide for organizations interested in making the switch to skill-based hiring. This guide provides valuable insights and practical steps to help you transition smoothly and effectively. Check out the following link for more information: https://lnkd.in/d-U5CpVb

What recruiters get wrong about skills-based hiring... Whilst conversations about skills-based hiring are gaining traction across the board, implementation remains to be a challenge for many employers looking to innovate their processes and tackle stubborn skills gaps. Sam Forsdick captures the frustrations perfectly in this Raconteur article, now featured in The Times and highlights the need for tailored guidance and support for organisations to effectively implement a tailored skills-based hiring strategy that yields tangible results. This is something that we're seeing positive impact with our employer partners engaged in our Skills and Learning Academies at Hays. With the innovations made across the process, end to end, the academies have proven to be an effective and flexible solution for acute talent shortages - unlocking the power of undiscovered talent to close those gaps. I'm always keen to chat more about this unfolding topic - drop me a note at harry.gooding@hays.com and let's continue the conversation. Read the article online: https://shorturl.at/JnPuc

In the ever-evolving world of talent acquisition, are we undervaluing soft skills? Skills-Based Hiring Skills-based hiring focuses on the specific skills and competencies of candidates rather than solely on their educational background or work experience. This approach helps organizations tap into a wider talent pool and reduce biases by concentrating on what candidates can actually do. Implementing skills-based hiring often involves using specific assessment tools and real-world tasks that provide a practical insight into a candidate’s abilities. This method ensures that the hired individuals are truly capable of performing the tasks required by their role, thereby increasing productivity and job satisfaction.

More and more organizations are adopting a skills-first approach to hiring and talent management. Skills-first hiring prioritizes candidates' skills, competencies, and abilities to perform on the job rather than focusing on educational background or previous experience in a similar position. It focuses on what candidates can do rather than what they've done, ensuring that the best fit for the role is based on capability and potential. The CV has been a cornerstone of recruitment for decades, but its importance is declining. Scroll through to learn why skills-first hiring is the future of recruitment and how to embrace the change. 👇 👉

Struggling to fill a vacancy? You might want to read this playbook or send it to your Talent Aquisition team! I’ve been reading this playbook over the last week and learning more about skills-based recruitment. University of Manchester Students' Union already implements a lot of the recommendations in the playbook - we don’t require CVs, don’t have educational requirements, and try to focus on testing for skills across the process. We’re currently making the shift away from the traditional job description and instead, moving to a role profile which further drives our skills-based recruitment process in the right direction. This playbook has helped me understand where barriers might still be in place for candidates wanting to apply for a job with us. For example, we recently added a statement to our recruitment website that asks candidates not to use GenAI in our recruitment process. However, through reading this playbook, I learnt that 💻Neurodivergent candidates are more likely to use ChatGPT than neurotypical candidates 💻 23% of Black and Mixed ethnic background candidates are likely to use ChatGPT in the recruitment process 💻 51% of candidates with a household income below £20,000 are using ChatGPT After learning this, I’ll be reframing our whole approach to AI in recruitment which I hope will make it more accessible and inclusive for all candidates. Thanks Arctic Shores. I’ll be using this playbook lots in the future ☺️ #skillsbasedrecruitment
HANDS UP IF YOU’RE BORED OF HEARING ABOUT SKILLS-BASED HIRING 🙋♀️ Hands up if you think most webinars, guides, and articles you hear about skills-based hiring COMPLETELY miss the mark, are generally quite boring, and not at all practical? 🙋♂️ Well, we felt completely the same. So we decided to do something about it. It has been a labour of love… But today, Arctic Shores are bringing you the pragmatist’s playbook for skills-based hiring - designed to help TA leaders navigate a new era of recruitment. It won’t be like other things you’ve read about skills-based hiring. It doesn’t confuse traits for skills or muddy the waters between behaviours that are innate or learned. It doesn’t prescribe complex skills-taxonomies or expensive AI-driven skill-matching software as the answer to all your problems. And it doesn’t contain an empty sales pitch or vague advice that isn’t actually practical. Instead, it articulates what most people get wrong when it comes to skills-based hiring and moves beyond theory into a hyper-practical seven step framework for implementing it. All developed using guidance from TA practitioners who have first-hand experience in implementing skills-based hiring and managing the change that goes with it (even without a big budget). We’ve worked hard to bring you actionable advice, templates, and definitions you’ll (hopefully) want to screenshot and share with your team. ✨ A huge thank you to Yasar Ahmad, Gemma Aldridge, Alycia Damp, PhD, Hung Lee, Andrea Marston, Andrew Wood, Dominic Joyce, Georgia Greer, Ian Elliott, Rebecca George CBE FBCS and Joe Sidley for their help in creating or reviewing this playbook. Download the free playbook today (no email address required) –– and if you find it useful, we’d love to hear from you > https://hubs.li/Q02vQZlq0 #SkillsBasedHiring #TalentAcquisition #Recruitment #FutureOfWork
