There's no doubt that electric vehicles (EVs) are the way of the future, but as with any new technology, there's a "chicken-and-egg dilemma" at play. Investment in manufacturing capacity and infrastructure must precede widespread consumer adoption. It's a tricky situation that requires the cooperation of companies, governments, and consumers alike. The road ahead may be long, but with continued collaboration and investment, we can overcome this dilemma and usher in a new era of clean transportation.

Depot charging for electric trucks could reduce out-of-route miles – Charged EVs Predicting the future of new technologies (or of anything) is a chancy business, to say the least. And yet, companies and policymakers must indulge in a bit of crystal-gazing in order to choose where to focus their investments. Vehicle electrification is still an emerging technology, and the only thing certain is that it remains uncertain https://lnkd.in/gRWxzMUM

Professor and Coordinator at Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advance Learning; Faculty of Engineering. Currently, completing a sabbatical research designing a roadmap to go from legacy to Industry 4.0 equipment
Empowering Ontario's Workforce: The Imperative for Training Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing and Maintenance Operators As the world accelerates towards a greener future, Canada and particularly Ontario stand at the vanguard of the EV transformation. Ontario is committed to reducing carbon emissions, fostering sustainable transportation solutions, and becoming a manufacturing EV hub. Therefore, it is imperative prioritizing the training and education of EV Manufacturing and Maintenance operators. A Partnership among Academia, Industry, and Government is required to complete the EV Transformation which has seen more than $30 billion in new investments since 2020. The partners' capabilities: · Academia educates highly skilled and creative people through state-of-the-art equipment, labs, simulations, and hands on education. · Industry partners bring operational excellence, innovation and latest industry needs. · Local governments support sustainable growth and economic development. Positioning Ontario: The Government of Ontario is working hard to “position Ontario as a North American hub for developing and building the car of the future through emerging technologies and advanced manufacturing processes” (Driving Prosperity, 2022 pg .3). Ontario would like to lead in the production of EV and EV battery manufacturing. This initiative requires highly skilled workers. Meeting Industry Demand: The demand for EV is surging, with major automakers committing to electrifying their fleets. As production ramps up, there is a pressing need for skilled workers who can manufacture and assemble EVs efficiently and maintain the fleets. Driving Innovation: EVs represent a paradigm shift in automotive technology, requiring innovative approaches to manufacturing and maintenance. Ensuring Safety and Reliability: Proper training can help mitigate risks and prevent accidents, safeguarding both workers and consumers. Supporting Economic Growth: The transition to electric vehicles presents significant economic opportunities for Ontario, from job creation to the expansion of the green economy. Addressing Climate Change: Perhaps most importantly, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles is essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector. In conclusion, the importance of training and educating manufacturing and maintenance operators for EV cannot be overstated. Academia, Industry, and Local Governments have a unique opportunity to lead the way in preparing the workforce for the electric vehicle transformation, driving innovation, supporting economic growth, and safeguarding the environment. #partnership academia industry and local governments #Electric Vehicle Manufacturing #Electric Vehicle Maintenance

Hi EV addicts, a new study by Transport & Environment (T&E) underscores a critical barrier to widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption: the lagging of affordable options. Hi EV addicts, a new study by Transport & Environment (T&E) underscores a critical barrier to widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption: the lagging of affordable options. T&E's findings reveal a stark contrast between the availability of affordable electric cars and their combustion engine counterparts. >> In Europe, only 17% of electric cars sold belong to the budget-friendly 'B' segment, whereas 37% of new combustion engine vehicles fall into this category. This discrepancy highlights a clear imbalance in the types of EV’s being offered to consumers. >> Luxury and large electric models dominate the market, outnumbering smaller, more economical options by a ratio of 3 to 2. This emphasis on upscale EV’s not only limits consumer choice but also perpetuates the misconception that electric vehicles are exclusively for the wealthy. >> Furthermore, while the private market has shown modest growth in EV adoption, the corporate sector lags behind. Just 14% of corporate cars are electric, reflecting a missed opportunity to drive widespread electrification through fleet purchases. >> Resistance from carmakers to taxation reforms has hindered progress, maintaining the dominance of traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. T&E advocates for binding electrification targets for corporate fleets, aiming for 100% electric by 2030, as a pivotal step toward accelerating EV adoption. >> The European Union must implement policies to promote the production and adoption of affordable EV’s, including stringent emissions targets and tax incentives. It's imperative for carmakers to expand their offerings of accessible electric options and drive the transition to cleaner mobility solutions. It seems we’re finally getting rid of some of those good old anti-EV myths once and for all. First, it was the Tesla Y becoming the best-selling car in the world in August ‘23. Now it's time for the old “not enough EV chargers” stuff to shut down. This time is not sector “biased” professionals and experts saying it, it is one of the journals that once were more skeptical about it. #EVcharging #sustainability #innovation #decarbonization #transport

One interesting use for in-wheel-motors is the retro-fit market. BEDEO are utilising the packaging benefits of Protean Electric's in-wheel-motors to enable H&EV retrofits for commercial vehicles, without negatively impacting load space (which is much more likely with an e-axle based solution). The article in E-Mobility Engineering does a good job of delving into this in more detail.
We're thrilled to share that we are featured in this month's E-Mobility Engineering. Dive into the article with insights from Stephen Lambert, as he discusses how our motors power BEDEO's RE-100 retrofit package that is transforming last-mile logistics. The USED electric vehicle market is improving, for those who wish to go this way. It likely works best for retired, semi-retired people or others who want to be green, but drive less regularly, and are wondering how to justify the investment in a new electric car. In countries, states and provinces that have incentives for buying an electric car, many are extending those incentives to used electric cars. It might be a good time to look into it. This piece provides a few links to help find used electrics. If you drive long distances, however, be warned, older electric vehicles often have shorter range and other more limited features than the very newest models.
