Pro-Tip: Financial ability & acuity is gold dust in the business world. Invest in time to understand it better and make it come easier to you. When I talk to finance people they are often confused. Finance comes so easily to them and they assume it does to everyone else. But there's a reason high quality finance people are so well sought after and why they often end up in CEO/MD positions. It's actually not that easy. They are also often confused when they listen to their colleagues, managers and other senior stakeholders in their organisation. There's often a lot of finance talk, but it doesn't make sense. 🤔🤷♀ 'Why do they keep mentioning the balance sheet when this topic is obviously P&L?' Something you might end up seeing a lot in the business world: - Fake it till you make it. - Or just fake it. Once you understand this, the above issue makes a lot more sense. When you understand a particular area, it can be really obvious when someone else is talking up their knowledge/abilities, but nothing underpins it. Finance literacy is so important, in every business role, not just the finance department. Most ambitious people realise this. Unfortunately, instead of working on building up their finance chops, some can try to talk the talk, without realising that some of us can tell they can't walk the walk. I'm not a finance person but when you work in procurement, you have to understand a lot of finance. I can't do the mathematical magic of some great financial wizards I've worked with in the past, but I can tell when someone's faking it. It's similar when you hear someone faking supply chain expertise. Instead of faking it, try to regularly invest in your understanding/abilities. If you don't want to admit it to colleagues, look for online classes or YouTube videos. Don't be afraid/ashamed if you need to learn it over and over again, it can be really tough. But it's a real strength and you can really achieve with it professionally. Be curious. Stay awesome team. 😎
