The UK currently welcomes over 600,000 refugees and other forcibly displaced people, representing a diversity of talent and experience. Yet they face many obstacles when trying to find a job, including language skills, a lack of social and professional networks, and childcare solutions. The private sector has an essential role to play in helping refugees to integrate economically in the UK. Getting a job is one of the most important steps for a refugee seeking to build a new life. ✨ Hiring #refugees in the UK will make our businesses and communities stronger. Some members of the CBRE UK Talent Team joined 40 other major employers at the job fair for refugees co-organised by Indeed and Tent Partnership for Refugees in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency, and DWP. 👍🏻 The UK currently welcomes over 600,000 refugees and other forcibly displaced people, representing a diversity of talent and experience. On this #WorldRefugeeDay, I’m reflecting on how I would cope if I was forced to flee my home, my family, my life.  If I had to leave everything familiar and stable, find a new place to live, learn a new language, emotionally process and look towards the future.  How would I find new friends, find a job? This past year has seen considerable political shifts impacting the lives of refugees in the UK.  It has been significant in the journey of #TentUK - with our official launch in March and the co-hosting of refugee focused job fairs. Many of our company members are establishing or growing refugee hiring programmes, and more mentors-mentees have been matched. We’ve developed more UK specific guidance and tools to support companies to connect with more refugees. I’ve also stood on a stage more than ever before and I continue to learn with our UK partners about ways to overcome barriers for refugees to find work. And yet, the most impactful moments for me are when a company tells me months after an event about their shifts in attitudes or approach as the result of hearing directly from a refugee. When I hear the positive results of a refugee mentee matched with a mentor from one of our member companies. When I meet someone who has been forced to flee their home country and experienced massive life changes and now is focused on their job and taking some time off work in the summer.  Beyond today, I’ll keep learning from refugees, connecting with our member companies who are hiring more refugees, seeking more opportunities to increase our collective impact.  I’m wondering what you’ll do? #worldrefugeeday 

💫Job Fair for Refugees 💫 Last week, three of our Recruitment Partners and one of our General Managers attended the Job Fair for Refugees at the Kia Oval in London.    We are proud to have representatives of Mitchells & Butlers at this event, which was co-organised by Indeed and Tent Partnership for Refugees, in collaboration with DWP, the UN Refugee Agency, and UK for UNHCR.   During the day, we spoke with many individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those whose qualifications are not recognised in the UK. We collected the details of 126 people and are committed to sharing their information with our 221 businesses in London.   Supporting refugees in finding employment is a cause close to our hearts. We understand the significant challenges they face, such as language barriers, lack of networks, and childcare issues. REACT DC’s Employment Program, launched in June 2022 and funded by the Refugee Career Pathways (RCP) Grant, is dedicated to providing comprehensive career support for newcomers. This initiative leverages advanced technology and personalized services to help individuals achieve career success and integrate into American society. 🌍 About the Refugee Career Pathways Program: • Purpose: Established to support refugees and ORR-eligible populations in achieving self-sufficiency through education and job training. The RCP program aids in creating personalized career development plans, offering career counseling, and evaluating foreign degrees to align with U.S. standards. • Key Services: Includes resume building, interview preparation, educational opportunities, and vocational English language training.
