This charming restaurant, open seven nights a week from 4 p.m., is tucked away in the back-right corner of the hotel, near the indoor pool and overlooking the patio and firepit. What a cozy spot! Shirley, the food and beverage director, is the sweetest! We chose to order off the menu and were blown away. The black sesame-crusted ahi tuna with wasabi rice cake and Asian veggies, and the parmesan-encrusted chicken in a sundried tomato cream sauce were both outstanding. Plus, we couldn't resist trying the short rib pappardelle—delicious! We started with soups—French Onion for me and tortilla for him—paired with a lovely salad of watermelon, spring mix, feta, and blueberries. It was the perfect beginning to a wonderful meal. The cocktail list is a highlight too! From the blackberry bourbon sour and chocolate-peanut butter White Russian to the pear martini and blue sea martini, there’s something for everyone. Perfect for a relaxing evening on the patio! With wedding season in full swing, they’re busy with special events. If you’re interested in their beautiful outdoor and indoor spaces, contact Diane at 570-970-1154. She’s fantastic to chat with! And the big news: the hotel will soon join the DoubleTree family! Next time you’re on Route 115, make sure to stop by Wildflowers. The friendly staff, expansive menu, and convenient location make it a must-visit. A big thank you to everyone at Wildflowers for a memorable dining experience! RESTAURANT REVIEW I stumbled across a Shanghainese restaurant that I absolutely loved during a brief "staycation" in Hong Kong. Shanghai Man Restaurant Sha Tin is a popular Chinese restaurant serving traditional Shanghainese cuisine. Expect all your favorites, from street snacks like steamed dumplings and thick noodles to hot and cold seafood, meat dishes, and vegetarian fare. Shanghai Man Sha Tin is located in the Shek Mun section of Sha Tin, a short walk from the Shek Mun MTR Station on the Tuen Ma Line. Navigating modern menus . . . #theguardian #menus #foodies #linguisticminefields #lostintranslation "Menus have always been a linguistic minefield. Arguably, the situation is worse than ever. Verbose, large-format menus, as satirised in the above advert, are now rare, relics from the 1990s. What has replaced them – concise, preposition-free dish descriptions – can be equally confusing. From Michelin-starred kitchens to neighbourhood small-plate restaurants, many chefs seek to convey a dish’s key attributes in as few words as possible. If you’re lucky, you might get as many as eight. Often, you might have to make do with just four or five, which may conceal as much as they reveal. Think: barbecued greens, bottarga, nori butter. Charles Spence, professor of experimental psychology at the University of Oxford, was already talking about “shopping list” menu descriptions in 2014, as co-author of The Perfect Meal. He suggests their proliferation may reflect a long-term shift to a more relaxed style of dining. “It does fit with the informal, casual and a lack of pretentiousness,” says Spence, whose work often focuses on food. “Abbreviation might go along with a focus on simplicity and that ingredients will speak for themselves.” ... "Quite when and why menus began to get shorter and more opaque is moot. St John was an early exponent, as noted in The Perfect Meal. Often it is a matter of individual preference. At Lyle’s in east London, James Lowe maintains an unorthodox style of capital letters and ampersands. Example: Bolting Greens, Nasturtium & Cured Egg Yolk. “The order is important,” he says. “It needs to sound right, like a law firm.” "

Senior Leader: Sustainability | Innovation | Operations | P&L Management | Inclusive, Visionary Leadership for Values-Driven Food Services Organizations
Restaurant menus can be surprisingly revealing. Sure, they’ll tell you what you can order at the hottest restaurant in your city on a particular evening. But they’re also a time capsule of culture, reflecting the comforts, habits, flavors, and values of an era. That’s been true since the first American menus of the 1840s, which cataloged the opulent dishes at hotels catering to the ultra-wealthy. And it remains so, well into the age of QR-code fatigue. Last year, as the New York Times Food team traveled the country to scout candidates for our annual list of favorite restaurants, we also set out to understand, more broadly, what defines eating out today. After years of plexiglass dividers, curbside delivery, masked servers and, yes, QR codes, one thing was immediately clear: Physical menus aren’t just back. They have more personality than ever. NYT visited hundreds of restaurants of varying styles, cuisines and price points — and left with 121 menus in hand. Together, they provide a snapshot of the distinctive new shape of dining right now. #foodtrends #food #restaurant #menu
