I’ve started over 30 companies in 3 different continents in my lifetime– and here I go again! Because if you’re going serial - you may as well go serial entrepreneur 🌱 Systematic thinking and biomimicry principles have guided me throughout my career and are the backbone of our work at Born Global (BG). When Adarsh Ghosh, MBA and I were exploring the impact investing space, we realized that there was a lot of incremental change, but no exponential growth based on systems– people were not going after the roots of the problems. This is why I am thrilled to launch our latest venture in conjunction with BG, Artemis Carbon Futures: a boutique financing company focused on regenerative impact projects. By applying this blended financing model, we aim to create exponential economic, social, and environmental returns. Our first projects focus on distressed industrial sites, transforming them into hard tech incubators that drive innovation and sustainability. What if we could reimagine moonshot investing—making it low risk with infinite upside? This week, I had a thought-provoking conversation with John Ruffolo, whose take on underwriting high-stakes deals inspired me to rethink how we fund bold ideas. Building on John’s insights, I developed a framework I’m calling The 1x Safety Net. Here’s how it works: Instead of incrementally funding a moonshot business in stages (like a typical venture deal whose unit economics remain constant), provide enough capital upfront to take the company from zero to one. This ensures the company can actually reach the point of building significant intrinsic value, allowing you to underwrite the deal to a 1x return—with nearly unlimited upside. It transforms moonshot investing from a gamble to a calculated opportunity: protecting the downside while unlocking massive potential. From high risk, high reward to low risk, infinite upside. Secondaries transactions have found favour among fund managers in Asia looking to provide liquidity to their limited partners lately. Now, such deals could also pick up among impact-focused private capital investors, promising to precipitate a new wave impact investments.
