It's time to break the silence and address a pressing issue that affects us all: mental illness. Despite their level of success or their place on the food chain, anyone can be affected. In fact, statistics show that nearly 20% of adults will face some form of mental illness in their lifetime. This means that there is a good chance you know someone who is struggling with it. So why aren't we talking about it? Let's start the conversation and break the stigma surrounding mental health. It's time to support and uplift those who are facing these challenges, and to educate ourselves on how we can help. Remember, mental illness does not discriminate and it's time to show compassion and understanding towards those who are struggling. It’s a painful reminder that mental health battles are often invisible. June is Men's Mental Health Month. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and it's heartbreaking that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50. Remember these things, not just this month but every month: Don’t tell a man to “MAN UP.” It’s crucial to talk about feelings and emotions. Telling someone to “MAN UP” is like telling them to shut up, but talking can help them not feel alone. Check on your friends. Maybe drop your quiet friend a message or invite them for a drink after work. A simple check-in can have a more positive impact than you might think. Be kind, not just to men but to everyone. We are all facing silent battles and challenges that we may not talk about. Just be kind—you never know what someone is going through. If you’re struggling or feel alone, remember that you are loved, and there are resources available to help you.
