As we commemorate Juneteenth, we celebrate a pivotal moment in American history—the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day symbolizes not just the end of slavery, but also the enduring strength and resilience of Black communities. As Chief Diversity Officer, I am honored to join in recognizing this significant day. Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of freedom and equality, and the ongoing journey toward achieving these ideals for all. It’s a moment for us to reflect on the progress we've made and the work still ahead to dismantle systemic racism and foster an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. I am from the American South so it is especially important to me that we show that racism, whether subtle or overt, has no place in today's society. At GE Vernova, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is more than just policy—it’s a core value that drives our mission and vision. We are dedicated to creating a workplace where every voice is heard, every background is respected, and every individual is given the opportunity to succeed. Our DEI initiatives are designed to support and empower our Black colleagues and communities, and to educate and engage all employees in meaningful dialogue and action. Juneteenth is also a time for celebration and education. I encourage all our team members to take this opportunity to learn more about the history and significance of this day. Engage in conversations, attend events, and support Black-owned businesses and organizations. Let’s honor the past while actively shaping a more just and equitable future. Also, A huge thank you to African Affinity Forum for the work that do to uplift our black and brown employees both here in the US and around the world (check out their icon!). Together, we can build a world where freedom, equality, and dignity are not just ideals, but realities for everyone. Happy Juneteenth! #Juneteenth #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Freedom #Resilience #TogetherWeRise #inclusion4impact #bettertogether
