Dieselgirl Missy Albin's journey into fleet maintenance hasn't been an easy one, with challenges such as adapting to new technology and working as a woman in a male-dominated field. "But I’m just as dedicated to fixing trucks, learning, and keeping drivers safe now as I was then," said the senior lead master technician at a Taylor and Lloyd, Inc International dealership. "And through it all, I know I’m doing what I was born to do." Read more about Missy's work and advocacy in our diagnostics piece from our latest issue. #truckingindustry #fleetmaintenance #womenintech

Two years ago yesterday this smilin’ kid had just passed his instrument checkride. For 28 years he was a private pilot, flying for fun when he could. This checkride, was the first step in the chain of “hmmmm, maybe a transition to professional flying -is- possible after all.” A lot has happened in those two years. More checkrides, a job search, a decision to leave stable government employment and a defined-benefit pension with 7.5 years to go. When the opportunity came, I was officially out of excuses to not pursue aviation as a career. If I didn’t send it now, there would be no better time. By coincidence, exactly two years from this photo, I was awarded a captain upgrade on a transport-category turboprop. I can dream big, but I wouldn’t have taken the bet that -this- would happen. Two years seems relatively short, but 731 days, lived day-by-day and decision-by-decision, feels a far more accurate portrayal. Each day had to be met, lived, felt, and learned from, to make -this- day possible. I’m grateful for those who helped make it possible, and to live somewhere where such abrupt course-shifts can even be contemplated by normal, working people. I can’t wait to see what the next two years brings…but I’ll have to live 729 more individual days, one at a time, to find out. Life is finite, fragile, and fleeting. Live it while we’ve got it, and live a life less ordinary. Fly safely, all.
