We had an incredible time participating in the The Food Bank of Waterloo Region's Great Food Sort Challenge! Our team spent a rewarding afternoon sorting a total of 2,219 meals, which will help support people in our community. A huge thank you to the Food Bank for hosting us and for all the amazing work you do to support those in need. We also appreciate all the other individuals and companies who contribute to this vital cause!

Yesterday, the Greater Chicagoland Area Food Banks - Northern Illinois Food Bank, Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana - released a "Greater Chicagoland Hunger Report" to help raise awareness about the rise of food insecurity, the need for more community support and resources for families.
The rise in food insecurity is not an urban, rural or suburban issue. We are seeing it across the board at all three Food Banks so we're joining together to ensure families have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.

This is what true leadership looks like. A true leader is looking to enhance the lives of many and has no interest in enhancing their own position. We need more leaders like this to make this country what it can be and ensure the economic gap is reduced.

An incredible leader, David Long is changing the landscape of food insecurity in BC. What the team at the GVFB has achieved is simply remarkable.
Their new addition of wrap around supports, employment services and expanded community partnerships are going to create lasting change and impact in the lives of those experiencing food insecurity.
I’m incredibly proud of the work being done at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
Post-grad news: I'm happy to share that I'll be starting as Mid-Ohio Food Collective's Communications Coordinator next week!
I'm eager to support MOFC's mission of combatting hunger in Franklin County and beyond through their food banks, farm, 'farmacy,' kitchen and markets.
The USDA's Economic Research Service reported that food insecurity in the U.S. rose from 12.8% (17 million) in 2022 to 13.5% (18 million) in 2023. Comparatively, in 2020 and 2021, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity was recorded at 10.5% (13.8 million) and 10.2% (13.5 million) respectively.
The topic of food insecurity in America is more prevalent than ever, so I encourage you to volunteer with MOFC or your local food bank, especially during this holiday season.

While I enthusiastically believe in the need for the services provided by food pantries and meal sites, it’s important to recognize their inadequacy. Without deliberate efforts to address the root causes of hunger, they simply maintain a system that leaves too many people without the food they need to thrive.

Today is World Food Day.
There are millions of people who are food insecure and don't know how, where or when they will have access to fresh, healthy, affordable food.
Food insecurity hits close to home. According to Feeding America, my home state of Texas has a high rate of food insecurity. Some 4 million Texans (children, adults, working families, veterans, etc.) struggle with gaining access to fresh, healthy, affordable food. It does not have to be that way.
The work that I do at the intersection of faith and food insecurity, advancing equity and dismantling food apartheid, is about being an ecclesial disruptor of the systemic injustices that cause our neighbors to be hungry.
Let's be intentional about understanding the root causes of hunger, food insecurity and food injustice. Our Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) neighbors are disproportionately affected at up to THREE TIMES the rate of our white neighbors.
Learn more at Feeding America.
You can also purchase a copy of my book, Scrimpin' and Scrapin': The Hardships and Hustle of Women and Food Insecurity in Texas to learn firsthand why Texas has such a higher rate of food insecurity. My book is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Books, Thrift Books, etc.
If you're in Dallas, you can purchase it at Pan African Connection and Bookstore in Oak Cliff.
Break an Egg! prompt: A wild prediction for your industry.
Right now, someone you know is dealing with food insecurity.
For those of us in white collar, LinkedIn-friendly jobs, this likely comes as a surprise.
But, if you have more than five friends, statistics tell us that one of them is likely dealing with food insecurity.
You can make a difference. If you're a business leader, make your next team building exercise a volunteer excursion to your local Food Bank.
Sponsor the Food Bank's next event.
Host a food drive - or a virtual food drive - for your employees.
Food Banks throughout the State and country are helping people every day battle food insecurity. You can help. For every neighbor in need.

The main reason why you’re hungry all the time is because more than half your meal is carbs.
I’m not saying carbs are bad. I’m saying they are not very filling.
Meaning you’re going to be able to eat more of them and feel hungry again a few hours later.
This is also why you have cravings. When you consume processed carbs you’re going to crave more of them instantly. They are designed that way for a reason.
So you keep coming back for me spending more money on those foods.
If you can relate to this post then follow for my post tomorrow! I’m going to talk about how to control your hunger and cravings!
