My latest video is now LIVE! This week, we are taking a look at Regiojet's newest fleet addition, and it is a very unique one! 🇨🇿 Meet Sirius, an EMU built by the Chinese manufacturer CRRC Corporation Limited 🇨🇳 This trainset was part of an order by Leo Express that was ultimately canceled in 2021. However, these trains were already made and testing in Europe. Another Czech private company, RegioJet a.s., took an interest in these unused trains and got a waiver to test the train with paid passengers on its R23 line between Ústí nad Labem and Kolín, a line that requires a turnaround after Ústí nad Labem. The train features some interesting aspects. I really enjoyed the Business class with a unique 1+1 layout; it’s something I would love to see more on intercity and high-speed trains. A perfect layout to isolate yourself for a good work session. The other interesting feature is the presence of “standing seats”. These are NOT sold by Regiojet and can be used by anyone if the train is very crowded. Instead of standing for one hour, you can “sit”, and despite how bad it looks, it’s quite natural to sit on it. I thought it was an interesting idea. I would be curious to see if people naturally choose to sit here in case of high volume of passengers. However, the train had a general feeling of being poorly finished, with bad comfort in second class, many rattling noises, and terrible soundproofing (the train was very noisy, especially in Business Class above the motor bogies) I’m curious to see the future of these units once the four-month trial is done for Regiojet. Franconia-Thuringia Express sprints with Siemens Mobility trains on the Nuremberg-Erfurt high-speed line. Happy to share that, just in time for the summer timetable change the Desiro HC Trains equipped with Trainguard 200 OBU entered passenger service on VDE8 on June 9th. This is the first time a regional train has been fitted with #ETCS to run at up to 190 km/h on the VDE8 in regular passenger operations. As a result, the travel times between cities along the VDE 8 (Nuremberg -Coburg-Erfurt) for Commuter trains have been reduced significantly. For example the schedule between Coburg and Erfurt by regional train has been reduced from more than 3 hours to only 36 minutes. A big thank you to the whole project team to reach this aim. Paris, France is moving towards bikes. Here is a very rough approximation of travel times if Paris allows JPods to build solar-powered transport networks. JPods networks can reduce car/truck-trips by 60%, making streets safe for bikes and pedestrians. Actual network would follow existing highways.
