The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (‘The Duke of Ed’) is an exciting international youth development program in which all of our elected Year 9 Leaders participate, along with other students who nominated to be part of the program. The program plays a pivotal role in developing our students’ leadership skills and resilience as they transition from Middle School into Senior School. A big shout out to Duke of Edinburgh Leader and Head of Inclusion, Kirsty Keay for her passion and drive in leading the Duke of Ed Awards program at KG and to Middle School Principal Jessica Walker for her enthusiasm and support of the program. The program has many benefits including: 1. Personal Development: Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards encourages students to set goals, push their boundaries, and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. 2. Physical Fitness: The program promotes physical activity through its requirements for participation in sports, physical recreation, and adventurous activities, fostering a healthy and active lifestyle among students. 3. Leadership Skills: Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within their groups, honing their leadership abilities, decision-making skills, and confidence in their own capabilities. 4. Community Engagement: Through volunteering and service activities, participants contribute positively to their communities, developing empathy, social responsibility, and a sense of civic duty. 5. Resilience and Perseverance: Undertaking the challenges presented by the Duke of Edinburgh Awards cultivates resilience and perseverance in students as they navigate obstacles, setbacks, and the demands of the program. 6. Recognition and Achievement: Completing the program and earning the Duke of Edinburgh Award provides students with a tangible recognition of their efforts, achievements, and personal growth, enhancing their self-esteem and motivation. 7. Global Perspective: The program encourages participants to explore new environments, cultures, and experiences, fostering a broader understanding of the world and promoting global citizenship. Below is a fantastic video produced by Education Queensland showcasing KGSC and our staff and students involved in the program. https://lnkd.in/gRrVMjFv #dukeofedinburgh #dukeofedinburghaward #youthleadership #PersonalGrowth #GlobalCitizenship #nurturinggloballycompetentlearnersleadersandcitizens #ThePursuitofExcellenceWithAllOurMight #YourPreptoPathwaysExperience

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, a pivotal moment in our nation's history that declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional. As we reflect on the progress made since 1954, we also recognize the ongoing challenges in achieving true educational equity. At Baiza and Associates, we are dedicated to continuing the fight for educational justice through our comprehensive work in leadership and school transformation. We believe that every student deserves access to high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our team works closely with schools and districts to implement strategies that foster inclusive, equitable, and high-performing educational environments. Through leadership development, professional learning, and data-driven decision-making, we help educators create systems that support all students in reaching their full potential. As we honor this historic anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality and justice that Brown vs. Board of Education embodies. Together, we can build a brighter future for all students. #EducationEquity #BrownvBoard70 #Leadership #SchoolTransformation #EdLeadership #EquityInEducation #BaizaAndAssociates

As you know, the Massachusetts Student Opportunity Act (SOA) requires your district to create a three-year plan to rapidly address persistent disparities in achievement across student groups. One of the requirements of these plans is to select evidence-based programs to address disparities in outcomes. We can help your district with the implementation of your plans. The Center for Leadership and Educational Equity (CLEE) has many evidence-based professional development practices that can help address these disparities and measure impact. We are a national organization located in Rhode Island with a local footprint in Massachusetts. https://lnkd.in/gqKWg67f

The education master planning process is one (of many) areas of our work that we find particularly rewarding and enjoyable. It allows us to engage with and work collaboratively with school communities to review and reaffirm their vision, strategy, pedagogical approach and needs, explore and consider different teaching and learning modalities, develop their education rationale and shape a long-term plan for the built environment that will support the community in realising its vision. Over the last few months, we’ve had the privilege of working with staff and students at St Judes Primary School (Langwarrin), St Mary’s Primary School (Swan Hill), St Philips Primary School (Blackburn) and St John Bosco’s Primary School (Niddrie) to craft their school’s Master Plans. Each school needed a long-term master plan for upgrading and modernising facilities to ensure fit for purpose and support and facilitate contemporary learning and teaching practices. By working closely with the leadership at each school and engaging with staff and students through workshops, surveys and meetings, we've developed strategic Master Plans for each that will ensure the future built environment aligns with and supports its unique vision, strategy, approach and community. While the final plans for each school are truly unique and bespoke, the outcome is the same. A strategic, considered Master Plan that details where the school is at, where it plans to be and how it will get there. That will support future funding applications and guide current and future leaders in realising the school’s vision. If you’d like to know more about Master Planning and what it involves, this article steps you through the purpose, process and considerations https://lnkd.in/gFgmG3zB #educationalleadership #educationarchitecture #educationleaders #learningenvironments

A national example of fostering learner agency and learning from those that education impacts the most - the student. Schools and systems tapping into learners’ perspectives, insights and analysis and solutions to drive school improvement? That’s what the Learner Commissioner work is all about. I love seeing the work being done and lead by schools in NT (and now elsewhere) that authentically brings in learners as tangible and valued partners. Read more below in Summer Howarth’s post and the E4L capture of some examples. #learneragency #leadership

🌟 Inspiring Minds at Silverdale and The Baird Primary Academies: Fostering Values, Collaboration, and Dreams 🌟 Day 2 of UK Parliament week University of Brighton Academies Trust has been a journey of inspiration and exploration, connecting with our young leaders. It's a time to celebrate their voices, their dreams, and the values that guide them. 🏫 First stop, Silverdale Primary Academy, where the young minds exude enthusiasm for collaboration and our trust values. The Year 6 pupil presidents and the parliament led the way, representing their constituencies and advocating for group views, fundraising, and school news. This term's theme: "Respect." 💬 The children's insights were remarkable. They highlighted the importance of friendship areas and suggested "buddies" and "friend assistants" for moments of sadness. They also had a spirited discussion about our trust values. The debate was lively, and "Working Together" emerged as their favourite value. 🌟 Next, The Baird Primary Academy welcomed me with open hearts. Pupil parliament representatives from all year groups had already embarked on their trust values journey. Their theme for the term was "Achieving Ambitions." 💬 The children's contributions were equally remarkable. "Achieving Ambitions" was chosen as their favorite value, and they shared how it empowers them to believe in themselves, practice, learn, and follow their passions. I'm deeply appreciative of their passionate participation and insightful conversations. These young leaders remind us that the future is bright, and nurturing ambition is vital. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue our journey of celebrating trust values with these incredible young minds. #YoungLeaders #DreamBig #SharedValues #EducationMatters
