Protectionism and subsidies in any sector aren't features. It's a bugs. Solar has both. Protectionism at a fundamental level is akin to taxing customers at the cost of benefiting a few local manufacturers with political rhetoric. Subsidy in essence is akin to taxing successful businesses to support limping businesses. This distorts the real demand and trust in the sector.
