Funding the infrastructure deficit and supporting growth are two of the most pressing challenges in our industry today. There was a great panel discussion exploring this very topic at the AMO Conference this year, moderated by Steve Paikin from TVO’s The Agenda, and is now available online.
This is a conversation that needs to continue, especially as we face the reality that $250 billion worth of infrastructure cannot be funded solely through municipal property taxes and user rates. I remain hopeful that provincial and federal leaders will review and update the distribution of responsibilities and funding for infrastructure in Canada, and Ontario specifically.
One great reminder from this panel was also how important it is for us to communicate the WHY behind these investments: to maintain and enhance the quality of life in our communities, and to continue to drive economic growth. I find that we often get caught up trying to define WHAT we need to build, HOW we are going to build it, and HOW MUCH it is going to cost, when it is the WHY that will help us get the support of our stakeholders and secure a sustainable future for our communities.
Thank you TVO for helping communicate this important information!
