Consolidation (or mergers and acquisitions) is a topic of particular interest to me, so reading Matt Scott’s views gave food for thought.
2023 was the biggest year for M&A seeing an increase of 25% in acquisition deals in the brokers and service provider sector.
Before setting up Momentum Broker Solutions, part of my role was dealing with just that. In general, M&As are seen as shrinking our landscape – but it’s really not. Yes, it may lead to a new name (and the loss of an independent/family name), but it also presents opportunity for dedicated insurance professionals who recognise the gap in the market deciding to go independent.
This regeneration is helping propel the Appointed Representative model forward, with no signs of slowing. In a changing landscape, many are embracing the possibilities of starting their own brokerage. We are privileged to support them as they regenerate our sector. And, like them, Momentum remains proudly independent with the success of our broker partners at our heart.
In today's Story of the Day, Matt Scott looks into the fascinating world of rising insurance mergers and acquisitions and whether these have reached its peak ⛰
