As much of the U.S. braves bitterly cold winter conditions this week, being able to reliably power and heat our homes becomes especially important. RF President & CEO Tim Gallagher discussed some of the electric grid reliability risks we are facing in a recent interview with Pittsburgh Works Together. Themes like increasing electrification, including the impact of data centers, the changing resource mix, and more are impacting not just the RF region, but are playing out nationwide. When one discusses climate challenges, Liz and I always break it down into two camps: you can approach the problems with calmness and a “can-do” spirit, or increase the alarming dismay surrounding scientific findings now. It never fails to amaze me that the one who remains centered, empathetic, and continuously patient is the electrical engineer, mom of six, business owner, podcast contributor, runner, etc etc etc. I on the other hand…. am the alarmist 🤣 Love collaborating and reinvigorating the passion with which we are trying to tackle energy problems. Podcasting with you is like an energy drink! Next up: adding my partner in crime Stet Sanborn, AIA CPHC to the Econ, power, and now.. thermal trifecta! We might need a quantum leap to hit our targets, but we have some ideas to get there that are practical. Now- whose into financing data center connected infrastructure developments that decarb neighborhoods immediately? LMK.
“A new perspective is looking at how we use energy and really trying to change our human behavior for our benefit,” said Elizabeth Cook, PhD, our VP of Technical Strategy, on The Grid Mod Pod while discussing how to improve our ever-evolving power grid.
