Aditi Mutatkar very well said. This issue is deeply rooted in generations of societal norms, where boys are encouraged to be active and play outdoors, while it has been considered acceptable for girls to remain indoors with little expectation of physical activity. This pattern has been reinforced by what they've observed in their surroundings—boys and men being active outside, while women are largely confined to indoor spaces. As a result, it has become normalized for girls to stay at home. It’s almost as if we’ve internalized this behavior across generations. To break free from this, we need deliberate and sustained efforts from all stakeholders, working together to shift these ingrained perceptions and expectations.

A Heavy Burden: How 100 Grams Disqualified an Olympian and Divided a Nation
Vinesh Phogat disqualified from Olympic final!
Indeed, it was heart breaking and caused a political stir in the country.
Just 100 gms excess but the burden of its effect on fans and politicians in Bharat was very heavy.
The athelets invest years of rigorous training and personal sacrifice to compete in Olympics.
A disqualification over such a small margin can certainly be devastating and unfair.
Political party's representatives, however, do not want to miss such a situation from making an issue out of it like boycotting Olympics or demanding an investigation.
They try to blame the government for the injustice meted out to the wrestler i.e Vinesh Phogat.
But justifiably, there should be a demand for flexible approach to sportsmanship.
Though rules are applied uniformly to all the participants and there is no scope of any foul play, yet Vinesh Phogat should be honored with a Silver medal. She desrves it.
What Vinesh could have done?
She could have chosen 53 kgms cetegory and in that case, she would not have struggled so much to maintain her weight.
AN OPPORTUNITY LOST CAN BE A LESSON TO THE ATHELETES/WRESTLERS.

PICKLEBALL anyone ?
Pickleball, a playful thought of 1960's had its first professional court made in 1972. The popularity of the sport grew at a rapid rate as it was seen as a combination of three different sports (Tennis, Table Tennis and Badminton).
Today Florida state in US has the most number of pickleball courts with an astonishing number of 1100+ courts growing each day.
The game came to India in 2008 and in 2016, Indian player bagged a Gold in Internation Pickleball tournament. That gave a lot of boost to the game. The 1st large scale tournament, in India was played in 2018 and now it is the fastest growing sport in the currently.
Experts are of the opinion that Pickleball will become the 2nd most popular sport after cricket in the coming 5 to 7 years.
In all metro cities the game's popularity has picked up considerably. Ahmedabad a Tier 1 Non metro city is seeing an astonishing growth with close to 200 pickleball courts already. Popularity is so much that IPL type paid leagues are being organised here.
Based in Ahmedabad and a lover of sports, I too ventured playing pickleball occassionally and now moving towards the Advanced/pro league in 35+ category.
What is your take on pickleball in your city?
Do you also like to play pickleball?
Do you also see Pickleball becoming a Television sport soon?
