Our forests, the big green machines that keep our air clean and our ecosystems thriving, are disappearing quicker than a toupee in a hurricane. 😬 The numbers are as stark as a treeless horizon. Over the past 15 years, India’s seen a real-life drama unfold with its forests - a tale of growth, loss, and revival. We’re talking about 9.3 lakh hectares of land used for compensatory afforestation initiatives, which is great, but there’s a twist. Not all green patches are created equal, and sometimes, what’s lost is way more valuable than what’s gained. We're excited to share the impactful results of our "Save The Innocent Sparrow Birds” initiative with Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan RSKS India. Driven by modernization, deforestation, and urbanization, habitat loss is a major threat to sparrow population which leave little space for these birds to thrive. Through this project, we've implemented sturdy bird houses that have provided safe havens for them which is essential to maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance. Sparrows play a crucial role in seed dispersal, insect control, and pollination, making their conservation vital. In just a few days, the sparrows have found new homes, enhancing the environment with their cheerful chirping. The positive change in their population is a testament to what we can achieve together. By supporting initiatives like these, we are not just saving a species but also nurturing the health of our ecosystems. Addressing the vulnerable coastal community residing in an area heavily affected by man-made mangrove degradation at the Devi River Mouth to acknowledge the mangrove ecosystem for climate resilience. The CAP 4 COP (Community Awareness and Participation for Coastal and Oceanic Habitat Preservation project, supported by the US Consulate Hyderabad in collaboration with the Forum for Integrated Development and Research Bhubaneswar, designed to encourage local art, local artists and students, many from the vulnerable coastal community. Script is being developed highlighting the significance of mangrove ecosystems, the threats they face, and their vital role in climate change mitigation. Through grassroots efforts like this, we aim to foster community cohesion and promote behavioral change toward a sustainable future. Rajendra Singh - often referred to as "Waterman of India," who's dedicated his life to battling water scarcity in Rajasthan, one of the driest regions in India. Singh's innovational methods of water conservation involved traditional water methods of 'johads' and 'check dams' to revive groundwater levels. His efforts breathed life back into arid landscapes, ultimately rejuvenating several rivers that were on the brink of drying out and positively transforming the lives of thousands of villagers who were facing acute water shortages. This wasn't merely a quest for water conservation but also rejuvenating communities affected by droughts and forced migration due to water scarcity. His work shows how environmental recovery can have a transformative socio-economic impact on communities. State Policy on Beekeeping and Honey making both in rural and urban areas. State policy /programs on reclamation of abandoned mining areas. 3. State Policy on Rainwater harvesting for irrigation purposes 4. State Policy on One Crop in One Gram Panchayat across Odisha 5. Creating 10 Lac green jobs in agriculture and allied sector in Odisha Setting-up hub & spoke model/centre in KVK for promotion, preservation, livelihood & income generation, enterprise and business linkage, research of Agriculture and allied sector products and services. 6. Setting up green nurseries in all districts of Odisha including coastal areas like mangrove, Casuarina, and cashew etc. An appeal to all the political parties Odisha to introduce climate change in their election manifesto. We will welcome the Climate Change Election Manifesto for the General Election 2024.
