Clinical Social Worker: Maybe this has to do with what was drilled into you in the military. Me: What? Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all we do: Clinical Social Worker: 😂 (laughs) No. How you’re trained to do things a particular way, and if not done correctly, punishment is delivered. I found that to be a thoughtful insight I’ve never considered. I’ve been doing substance use disorder therapy since 2018. Today, the tip was to use SOBER breathing exercises 😮💨 Stop Observe Breathe Expand Respond While you check in with yourself using the five SOBER steps, your field of awareness moves much like the shape of an hourglass--from wide or broad awareness at the beginning to narrow in the middle and back to wide at the end of the practice. Anyways, this is your friendly nudge that therapy is a good thing. I do it. I encourage those struggling with mental health to have the courage to talk with a professional. #therapy #SOBER #veteranshelpingveterans

At Freespira, we’re committed to supporting access to mental health treatment for all people. Yet research continues to show the stark challenges, especially among veterans. Despite the critical work of the Veterans Health Administration, more than half of veterans with mental health conditions are still struggling. For veterans with substance abuse disorders, that number rises to nearly 9 in 10. Why the gap in access? Economist and Marine veteran Sergio Ernesto Barrera, an assistant professor at Virginia Tech is leading a two-year study to tackle this issue. Barrera’s team will explore the obstacles that deter veterans from seeking care, assess the current treatment options, and seek to understand individual factors that affect care delivery. Freespira is proud to offer an evidence-based digital therapeutic treatment for veterans battling panic attacks or PTSD symptoms. But our work won’t be done until all people are able to access the mental healthcare they need. Join us in supporting our heroes. 🤝 #MentalHealthEquity #VeteransSupport #PTSD #PanicDisorder #AccessToCare Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDe6Sgim

World TB Day reminds us of the intricate connection between physical and mental health. As a psychologist, I understand the toll tuberculosis takes on individuals and communities. Let's use this day to raise awareness not only about the disease itself but also about the psychological impact it can have. By fostering understanding and support, we can empower those affected by TB to navigate their journey with resilience and hope. Together, let's strive for comprehensive health and well-being for everyone. #WorldTBDay #MentalHealthMatters #EndTB #HealthEquity
