Tuist’s goal is to make building apps enjoyable regardless of the size. To accomplish that, we assembled a small with people like Christoph Schmatzler & Asmit Malakannawar who can spark joy through their craft, whether that is by designing a beautiful design system that stands out, or elevating our engineering excellence to make our systems shine. Our business principle is simple. If people enjoy what we build for them, they’ll contribute back financially. It seems an obvious thing, but it’s quite rare. Companies try to take shortcuts here and there, trying to solve problems by throwing money at them, and only interacting with people if they can profit anything back from them. They want to profit fast and seek growth at any cost. We don’t. And this is quite liberating. It gives us a unique perspective and human touch to product that makes Tuist stand out. Sometimes the solution to a problem requires contributing to the commons so everyone in the #Swift ecosystem be benefits from it, so we go ahead and do it. Tuist is a different company. How many of us can confidently say we are inclusive and value accessibility? After attending a talk by Prae, I realized how much more there is to learn and do in this area. The dedication and hard work going into making web accessibility a priority at NZ Tech Rally is truly inspiring. 🔧 Key Takeaways: - Small Achievable Milestones: Accessibility and inclusion are journeys. Breaking down the process into small, manageable milestones can lead to significant progress. - Valuing Diversity: Creating an environment where everyone feels valued and included brings us closer to our core values. - Organising Accessible Events: Consider venue location and facilities, provide features like live captioning and sign language interpretation, and collaborate to understand the needs of individuals with disabilities. Last year, I launched Shoobie 3.0, an app that marked the beginning of my journey as an indie app developer. Aimed at beach enthusiasts, it promised to deliver everything needed for the perfect beach day, from tide schedules to weather conditions. But despite my high hopes, it was more a lesson in humility than a triumph, a true test of navigating through rough waters. The ambition was high but the waves were rougher than expected. I faced everything from misplaced trust in data providers to unfortunate business decisions with our loyal subscribers, leading to a total wipeout of existing subscriptions. It was, to put it mildly, a perfect storm. Yet, the passion to improve kept me afloat. I returned with Shoobie³ 3.2, revamped with accurate data and a redesigned architecture. And now, I’m excited to announce Shoobie³ 3.3 is on the horizon! This update brings Siri Shortcuts for easier access and real-time weather alerts to keep you safe and informed. Plus, it’s more inclusive than ever, supporting Dutch, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. I’m experimenting with ASO, experimenting with multiple App Store Product Descriptions translated into different languages (thanks AI generated translations) to see if we can boost conversions. Stay tuned for results! Most importantly, this journey has been a personal one. Battling the waves of imposter syndrome is a rite of passage for the self-made (not saying everyone has to go through it, just "usually" it's easy to fall into this and stay stuck). The Tier 1 team, "Code Ninjas," aimed to develop a sophisticated coffee-ordering app, while the Tier 3 team, "Debugging Ducks," focused on spreading joy through cat memes. As the clock ticked down, the Code Ninjas struggled with complexity and glitches, while the Ducks thrived on creativity and collaboration, crafting an app that simply delivered daily doses of cat happiness.
