Most founders struggle with sales. I see this everyday. So much revenue gets left on the table. Runways are been burnt. Equity is given away for follow on rounds which may not need to happen with better sales ability. Mistakes are being made when hiring the first sales teams. So... I've set out on a mission to help founders be better at selling. And anyone that knows me will know I'm passionate about sales! And I happen to be quite good at it. I've already been helping LOTS of founders on a 121 basis. It's given me a great data set on where the challenges are. I'm now going to help founders through our new community Cosmic Collective. It's a revenue only focused community where decades of knowledge will be given away. Ever heard of “multithreading” sales strategy? Multithreading means talking to multiple people in a company during a sale. Not just the big boss, but others who can say "yes" or "no". Why's it good? In big sales, one "no" can stop everything. But if you've got more people saying "yes", you've got backup! I tried it. Talked to managers, team leads, even interns. Got different views, learned more, and guess what? Closed more deals. But watch out! Too many threads can tangle things up. Know when to pull back. Tips for you: Start with the key players, then branch out. Listen more, talk less. Keep notes. It's easy to mix things up! Tried multithreading? Drop your story below. Remember that post I made about a month ago talking about landing Brad Taylor to help me build out the full cycle AE motion at Lawmatics? Well it's time to start hiring for that role. We currently have 4 AAEs that we promoted from our SDR org who spent the last month learning everything possible about problem based / gap selling as well as our product and are already putting it all into motion. Now we need a few more reps to help us continue building momentum in the AAE org. Here are a few things we value and what you can expect from us in this role. (more details in the JD) What we value: A track record of success- You gotta be able to show your work. Where do you stack up amongst your team and for how long have you been at the top? If you're a top SDR looking for your shot as a first time closer, this is critical! Coachability - We don't expect you to know it all, but we expect a desire for coaching and a strong ability to apply that coaching quickly. This will be tested in the interview process :) Desire to grow, learn and earn - We want reps that have big goals and want to grow at Lawmatics. Growth can mean a ton of different things like earning support, taking on leadership responsibilities, working big deals or just being the best AAE and blowing out the comp plan. Whatever it is, we want to know your big goals and we want to help you get there! The #1 & #2 mistakes I see startups make when hiring for sales ops: #1 Their first hire has little or no sales experience This is detrimental to their ability to think like a buyer and think like a seller. They simply don’t have the experience. Building processes and systems that benefit these two groups rather than solely the manager/VP is immensely important. I understand the temptation to hire a technician rather than a strategist. They’re less expensive. But it will cost more in the end by way of lost time on the wrong tools and workflows. #2 They accept that sales ops is a cost center Sales operations, with a properly staffed and motivated sales team, has the potential to significantly increase throughput with the SAME resources (i.e. profits). This mean that rather than obsessing over buying all the newest tech, they’re obsessing over efficiency and the ROI of your reps and tooling. When we make the mistake of hiring a technician first, we often turn them into report jockeys.
