We've noticed a growing trend lately—saunas are being talked about as the new social hubs, gradually replacing the traditional pub scene. This shift isn’t just about swapping drinks for detox; it’s about embracing a healthier, more meaningful way to connect. Saunas offer a space where communities can come together, unwind, and engage in genuine conversations, all while prioritising wellness. As we see more of these posts and discussions, it's clear that this change could have a profoundly positive impact on our communities. Healthier social spaces lead to stronger, more connected communities, and that's something we can all benefit from. Have you experienced this trend in your area?

As the Director of Integrated Wellness, it's increasingly concerning to witness a trend where professionals with PhDs and MDs are stepping into the wellness field without a foundational understanding or practice in lifestyle wellness. Wellness, health, and fitness are holistic fields that not only require scientific knowledge but also a deep understanding of lifestyle practices, behavioral psychology, and individualized care approaches. While the credentials are impressive, wellness is about integrating evidence-based practices with an understanding of individual needs and challenges. It’s not just about what we know scientifically; it’s about how we apply this knowledge to improve lives. We must caution against the spread of misinformation and remind ourselves that expertise in one area does not inherently translate to all areas of health and wellness. #HealthAndWellness #IntegratedWellness #FitnessJourney #WellnessCommunity #LifestyleMedicine #EvidenceBased #HolisticHealth #ProfessionalDevelopment #CollaborationIsKey

In 2023, the U.S. health and wellness market was valued at about $1.2 billion, and is expected to maintain steady growth, to approximately $2.1 billion by 2033. Why? Because even though we’ve always felt that healthy relationships play a role in our overall wellbeing, now research is being published that proves this connection. According to the CDC, feeling isolated has been shown to negatively impact mind-body health, increasing the risk of anxiety, depression and heart disease. The flip side of that is that recent research has shown that mindfulness practices can actually alter the brain, may help prevent age-related deterioration and improve cognitive function. Coupling mind-body practices with socializing increases benefits exponentially. This is why we’ve seen a recent rise in social wellness initiatives. This is incredibly important, since at the end of the day, wellness is so much more than healthy eating and exercise, It’s about taking care of social well-being as a crucial focus as well. Next we want to see health plans partner with social wellness initiatives in order to offer their members the benefits of extended healthspan.
