You’re not going to get hired like Sam Altman because you’re not Sam Altman. I’m enjoying reading about the Sam Altman/OpenAI story as it unfolds. There have been plenty of posts about it. But the posts stating if Microsoft can hire someone within 24 hours, all companies should be able to eliminate specific criteria they follow in their interview process and hire quickly are way off. Sam Altman is well known. Joe or Jill Candidate are not. Sam’s success is very clear. Joe or Jill Candidate’s success is not. Comparing Sam and the quick decisions made by Microsoft to other hiring processes out there isn’t comparing apples to apples. Are there shitty interview processes out there? Unfortunately, yes. Should we expect all hiring situations to be the same? No, it’s not realistic. Will someone who is well-known be hired quicker than someone who isn’t? Of course! Perfect example…watch this video.
