❗ Unprecedented Chinese Tech Presence at CES 2024: Fact or Media Hype? 🔹 At CES 2024, I witnessed an interesting thing. As a Consultant for Digital Business Models and a leader in facilitating innovation trips to China, I was struck by the staggering increase in Chinese participation - over 1,100 exhibitors, more than double from last year according to Chinese Media. Although according to Lukas Pierre Bessis + Sascha Pallenberg 潘賞世 there seems less Chinese overall presence in their recent video from #CES 🔹 Amidst AI advancements, it's crucial to discern between actual technological growth and strategic narratives. Is this a genuine move towards tech collaboration or a case of selective reporting? 🔹 Bridging East-West tech initiatives, I believe in the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and partnership for global challenges. In this uncertain landscape we need partnership on a global level to tackle our problems and not a new block building between East and West… Whats your take? #TechCollaboration #CES2024 #GlobalInnovation #ChinaTechRise

Sign up for our daily and weekly newsletters here. CES 2024 is coming back to Las Vegas the week of January 7, and it should be one of the biggest tech events in the world again. This year, the organizers of CES 2024 expect more than 130,000 attendees through January 12, with hundreds of speakers, 3,500-plus exhibitors and and 2.4 million square feet of exhibit space to. Among this year’s features: The Goodyear blimp will show up. I attended the Consumer Electronics Show back in the 1990s when then-Microsoft CEO Bill Gates gave the opening keynote speeches every year. Las Vegas has changed a lot since then, but some of my advice about the show goes back to those good old days. “We’re very excited. All the indicators and signs are pointing in a good direction. We focus CES on innovation, said Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), in an interview with GamesBeat. “The pieces are coming together bigger than they ever have. We have more innovations entries by about 40%. It seems like more excitement. Incredibly strong pre-registration. A lot of numbers are u...

The main #MWC24 themes are broadly consistent as seen in previous years (and at some other events). In this piece I’ve looked at a few key areas that did stand out based upon my observations on the show floor and announcements. ❇️ MWC is Evolving It is encouraging to see the show back to its normal state, which is a positive sign for the industry despite all the doom and gloom. There was no shortage of news. In fact, there was a barrage of stories with a common theme of partnerships between telcos and the broader value chain. As mentioned in my preview, it remains the premier networking event on the calendar with unprecedented access to CEOs. ❇️ AI Everywhere AI being absolutely ubiquitous is something we should become accustomed to now. Most stands at the Fira had a mention of AI, and it appeared in numerous press releases. Of course, AI is not a new topic, nor is its presence at MWC. Telcos, however, are now talking about using AI in a meaningful way from network efficiency to improving the customer experience. ❇️ Show me the Money Despite the success of the show in terms of attendees, we cannot ignore the ongoing structural challenges the industry faces. Telcos are struggling to increase revenue and are cutting capex. This has, and will continue to have, a negative impact on network vendors such as Ericsson and Nokia, as well as smaller niche providers. The harsh reality is that Open-RAN is not moving quickly enough to fill what is a huge hole, and telcos are still radically transforming their IT, billing systems, and processes. ❇️ Debate Around the Future Smartphone As mentioned in my MWC 2024 preview, the role of smartphones at the show has significantly reduced over the years. With smartphone sales declining, everyone is turning attention towards when the next ‘supercycle’ of devices might arrive. ❇️ Strong Interest in Non-Terrestrial Networks There were close to 70 companies related to satellite connectivity on the show floor. This is the biggest representation we’ve seen from this sector at the event to date, and it is amazing to see a turnaround of fortune for this sector, given the potential loss of carrying broadcast TV channels in an internet-driven future. ❇️ Sustainability Takes a Huge Leap Beyond the Barcelona drought which forced everyone to think about our use of water during the show, sustainability was firmly on the agenda this year. Over the years we have seen significant greenwashing at this and other shows, with zero meaningful developments. Trawling the show floor in 2024, however, revealed plenty of developments looking to focus on energy efficiency and network optimisation, primarily due to AI. Happy New Year! And we're back...up next, CES. From a recent CES briefing, the 2024 show is going to be bigger than ever, with newcomers -- Netflix joining in Central Hall for the first time at CES 2024. New to C-Space are Disney Advertising, Charter Communications, Fandom, Fox, Kroger Precision Marketing, Madhive, Media Monks, Nexstar Media Group, Nvidia, Reddit, Viacom and Paramount. AI will likely take center stage, tackling global challenges from clean air solutions to labor shortages. Smart homes, flying cars, and wearable health tech are all on the docket — an amusing difference from the VCR, CD player, and TI-99/4 calculator showcased in the early years of CES. I look forward to learning about more groundbreaking discoveries that will define technology as we know it in the modern age. #CES2024 #Innovation #AdTech #digitaladvertising
