Philippe Lamotte, former CFO of the ITER Organization and of the Olkiluoto 3 #powerplant project, is the inaugural CFO of Renaissance Fusion. After studying finance and accounting in the south of #France and obtaining his Master’s degree, Philippe held various international #management positions in the #nuclearindustry. In 2000 he restructured a mid-size company in #Germany and focused it on core business activities. In 2006 he became ERP Program Director and introduced project management techniques in the finance core model of the Areva Group, now Framatome. Back to Germany in 2011, he took the position of Corporate Controller at the Enrichment Technology Company ETC Global, which develops and manufactures centrifuges, like those for the Georges Besse II plant. Philippe then joined the Olkiluoto 3 project as CFO and spent more than four years in #Finland focusing on stabilizing the project, before moving back to France in 2018 to become #Finance and #Procurement Head of the ITER Organization. Philippe is welcomed by the whole Renaissance #team. He will work closely with COO Diego Cammarano, MBA and CEO and CTO Francesco A. Volpe, who said: "Philippe brings to Renaissance a wealth of experience in the financing, management, procurement, construction and operations of the most complex and ambitious tokamak feat of human history so far and, more importantly, of the fission industry - a mature industry that generates revenues, societal #value and carbon-free #energy for France, Finland and dozens of other advanced #economies today. He will be instrumental in bringing #fusionenergy and simplified #stellarators to the same level of commercial maturity and exploitation within years, not decades". Fusion is a nuclear process like fission, but with several advantages (https://lnkd.in/dC-AxQGF): the fuel is abundant; it produces much less nuclear waste, and of lower activity, especially with Renaissance's protective liquid metal walls; it is predicted to produce significantly cheaper electricity than nuclear, competitive with solar, but available 24/7 and on a fraction of the land.
