According to one legend, there is a reason for the order of the animals in the cycle. A race was held to cross a great river, and the order of the animals in the cycle was based upon their order in finishing the race. In this story, the snake compensated for not being the best swimmer by hitching a hidden ride on the Horse's hoof. When the horse was about to cross the finish line, the snake jumped out, scaring the horse, and thus edging it out for sixth place. The same twelve animals are also used to symbolize the cycle of hours in the day, each being associated with a two-hour time period. The hour of the snake is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., the time when the Sun warms up the Earth, and snakes are said to slither out of their holes. The month of the snake is the 4th month of the Chinese lunar calendar and it usually falls within the months of May through June depending on the Chinese to Gregorian calendar conversion. The reason the animal signs are referred to as zodiacal is that one's personality is said to be influenced by the animal signs ruling the time of birth, together with elemental aspects of the animal signs within the sexagenary cycle. Similarly, the year governed by a particular animal sign is supposed to be characterized by it, with the effects particularly strong for people who were born in any year governed by the same animal sign. Astrophysicist Gernot Grömer wants to promote space travel. So he founded the Austrian Space Forum. Grömer sees himself as a "shipbuilder” who’s working on making the journey to Mars possible in 20 to 30 years. To this end, he conducts analog missions here on Earth. For these, scientists known as analog astronauts practice for the journey to the Red Planet, collecting knowledge along the way. AMADEE-24 is the name of the current mission, which will take place in 2024 in cooperation with the Armenian Space Agency in the Ararat region, an environment with Mars-like geology. The film accompanies the mission through its highs and lows. However, the Austrian Space Forum and its many volunteers are not only practicing for the colonization of Mars. Under the direction of Gernot Grömer, they are also working on a nanosatellite that searches for space debris. Space may be infinite, but the Earth's nearby orbits now resemble a large garbage dump. Europe must keep a foot in the door, rather than leaving the space race up to China and the USA: That’s the goal of Augsburg rocket engineer Stefan Brieschenk. He founded the Rocket Factory Augsburg in 2018. He’s working hard, both here and in the far north of Sweden, on a rocket that will soon launch satellites into space from Europe -- at an unbeatable price. The Rocket Factory recycles items from other industrial sectors, including tanks from the brewing industry. Happy Lunar New Year to all celebrating! 🧧🍊🎆 Lunar New Year has always felt special, and it often feels as if the new calendar year hasn't quite started until the festivities are over. Taking on running a company has meant experiencing it a completely different way, be it ordering oranges in bulk for our retailers (and figuring out which ones to order - 红美人, anyone?), or determining the most suitable greetings to send our partners in China and Taiwan using my now-rusty Mandarin. This year marks the Year of the Snake, with the snake being a symbol of change, adaptability, and most importantly, of renewal. It feels especially timely as we all enter a year where uncertainty only seems to be mounting, and change seems to be around every corner. It is a challenging time to be running an SME - I am now all too acquainted with the cost of business, and constantly concerned with building the company's resilience to tide through the impact of various geopolitical and economic forces. We are cautiously optimistic, though, and grateful to be in that position. It is clear that the way forward is foresight and long-term focus, and the courage to find and capture the opportunities that lie ahead. We have exciting plans lined up as we explore how we can be a business for good in the sports and fitness industries, with a clear set of values at our core, while maintaining our profitability and growth trajectory. I am immensely grateful to have a team that has been on board with my approach of treating the way forward as a blank canvas, and has embraced the change and shedding of older legacies.
