Renal Care Nephrologists; Dr Mahathi Kalipatnapu and Dr Chandra Chaturvedula, along with the SBL Dialysis team and volunteers from throughout the organization offered free Kidney screenings to just under 40 community members. I want to personally thank each and every volunteer for the help they provided today. It was wonderful to see everyone come together to support this important cause. When speaking with one of the volunteers she stated, “It does not matter how many people we see in a day, if we saw one person that is impacted- it is totally worth it”. The height of corruption in healthcare system is the prioritization of profits over public welfare. A free market economy doesn’t have to be the winners take it all. Current corrupt system is a violation of every assumption of a free market economy. The shareholders and the equity firms with deep pockets are the REAL healthcare practitioners with maximum profits as drivers.
Dr Eric Bricker, MD does a beautiful job summarizing Tom Mueller 's behind-the-scenes look into the #dialysis industry. If you have not read it yet, I highly encourage getting your hands on "How To Make a Killing." ESRD related dialysis or transplant is one of only two conditions that qualify someone for Medicare regardless of age. The profiteering of such a vulnerable population is one of the ugliest things about the industry. It's time we tell the story! https://lnkd.in/gpEjNtiq

Founder of the MOSAIC Existential Advocacy Program | Empowering dialysis patients to drive reform | The Voice of the Voiceless | Healthy Democracy | Patient Advocate | Retired
🌟 Shifting the Narrative: Eliminating Stigmas Around #ESRD and #Dialysis End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and dialysis often come with heavy stigmas—labels that weigh down the individuals living with these conditions. These stigmas stem from misunderstandings and can negatively affect how patients are perceived and treated. It’s time to shift the narrative and view ESRD and dialysis through a lens of understanding, respect, and hope. 📚 Education and Awareness Public and healthcare education are crucial in dismantling the stigmas around ESRD. Misconceptions thrive where understanding is lacking. By educating the public on what ESRD and dialysis involve, we can challenge the perception that dialysis is a life-ending treatment, and instead, show that it enables life. 🗣 Language Matters Language shapes perceptions. Terms like “failure” and “end-stage” can carry negative connotations. Shifting to more positive language, such as “kidney warrior” or “dialysis champion,” can empower those living with ESRD and redefine their journey in a more hopeful light. 🛡 Empowering Patient Voices Personal stories are powerful tools in fighting stigma. When patients share their experiences, they humanize ESRD, challenging the stereotypes and showing that life on dialysis, while challenging, can still be full and rewarding. Peer support groups and patient advocacy are also vital in raising awareness and creating community. ⚖ Changing the Public Discourse Media plays a significant role in shaping public perceptions. We must encourage balanced reporting that includes stories of resilience and innovation, rather than solely focusing on the burdens of dialysis. Public figures who share their experiences can also help shift the narrative and normalize ESRD. 🌍 Education as Prevention Education is not just about combating stigma—it’s also a tool for early detection and prevention. Public awareness of kidney disease symptoms and the importance of family history can lead to earlier intervention and better outcomes, potentially preventing the need for dialysis. 🌟 Building a Future Free of Stigma We can replace the fear and stigma associated with ESRD with compassion and empowerment. Through education, language reform, patient empowerment, and changing the public conversation, we can create a future where ESRD is understood, respected, and free from stigma. #Dialysis #KidneyFailure #RenalFailure #AlportSyndrome #KidneyHealth #RareDiseaseAwareness https://lnkd.in/ggKH35-d ** Subscribe today for free (no paywalls)

WCHQ launched our online CKD Toolkit for primary care yesterday with an informative webinar moderated by our own Jenifer Koberstein and featuring SSM Health Nephrologist Bret Pasiuk, MD, FASN. Dr. Pasiuk shared how the toolkit can be used as a resource to primary care providers. For example, what populations should be screened for CKD? When should a CKD patient be referred to nephrology? Check out our toolkit and find out! https://lnkd.in/gQbcknz3

Thanks to Eric Bricker, MD for another razor-sharp analysis, this time of my book on Big Dialysis, How to Make a Killing: https://lnkd.in/dRySrAQp
Corrupt #Dialysis Industry Exposed... "How to Make a Killing" #BookReview. Tom Mueller has written an excellent book about #corruption in the dialysis industry called "How to Make a Killing." The book lays out the story of dialysis from its #invention around the time of World War 2 to its eventual coverage by #Medicare in 1972. The book goes on to chronicle the #consolidation of many dialysis companies into two... DaVita Kidney Care and Fresenius Medical Care North America, which control over 80% of the US dialysis market. The book describes the #abuses against dialysis patients including being #abandoned by their dialysis center when they speak up about their care. Lessons from "How to Make a Killing": 1. #Vulnerable patients are exploited when A) there is a lack of competition or B) #RegulatoryCapture dissuades the government from protecting patients they way it should. 2. #IndividualAdvocacy--speaking up, making others uncomfortable, being the 'squeaky wheel'--is necessary to improve a patient's dialysis care.

Access to American medical care is inequitably subsidized according to illness, age, location, sex, race, vocation, net worth, job, income and military status. End stage renal disease and the industry feeding at the subsidy trough is but an example of this. Here’s your solution: https://lnkd.in/ecUwsHWP
