Gender-affirming care is a supportive form of healthcare. It consists of an array of services that may include medical, surgical, mental health, and non-medical services for transgender and nonbinary people. For transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents, early gender-affirming care is crucial to overall health and well-being as it allows the child or adolescent to focus on social transitions and can increase their confidence while navigating the healthcare system. Each of us should be able to live, work, and make decisions about our health and our future with access to resources and support. People, not politicians, should have the freedom to make their own decisions. Tell lawmakers to oppose bans on gender-affirming care. Take Action Here: https://p2a.co/ojvvlah

Volckaert BS, Sharon O'Connor MBA, MS, Ellen Flaherty PhD, APRN, AGSF, Renée L. Pepin PhD Meeting the health care needs of older adults often requires primary care and community-based services providers to work collaboratively. Let’s dream a bit. What if PACE programs (Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) were incorporated into all community health centers nationally? These programs better address medical, social, and emotional needs, delivering personalized comprehensive care plans, in a way that appropriately centers culture and equity as well as improved clinical outcomes. The Cherokee Nation’s PACE program is a powerful example of this, among many others. By managing routine care, CHC’s could focus on prevention, wellness, disease management, and maintaining independance, while hospitals could focus on acute and critical clients. PACE programs would also offer culturally appropriate social activities, transportation, and caregiver support, reducing social isolation. This national integration would revolutionize elderly care, promote well-being for seniors by increasing the resources available to support them in their home communities, actively celebrate the cultures represented within the community, alleviate the burden on healthcare facilities and family caregivers, showcase the efficacy of CHC’s (as well as strengthen and diversify their revenue streams, making them more sustainable), and better advocate for the wisdom-holders and culture-keepers of the community. Many birds, one stone. #nationalpaceassociation #nachc

We are calling on all levels of government, healthcare providers, and the community at large to take action. We need to see more funding allocated to rural and northern healthcare, more training for healthcare professionals in dealing with the unique challenges of elderly care, and more awareness campaigns to educate the public about the rights of the elderly. We also need to see a shift in the way we view elderly care. It's not just about providing medical treatment. It's about ensuring that our elderly loved ones can live out their golden years with dignity, respect, and the highest possible quality of life. This includes access to traditional practices and cultural activities that are integral to their wellbeing. We are also urging families who are in similar situations to speak up. Your voices matter. Your stories matter. Together, we can bring about change. We are grateful for the support we have received so far, but the fight is far from over. We will continue to advocate for our mother and for all the elderly in the North who are being denied their basic human rights. We are not just fighting for our mother. We are fighting for every elderly person who has been neglected, ignored, or mistreated by the healthcare system. We are fighting for a future where every elderly person in the North has access to the care they need and deserve. We are fighting for justice. And we won't stop until we get it. #HealthcareJustice #ElderlyRights #StandUpForTheElderly #NorthernHealthcare #RuralHealthcareAdvocacy.
