The Geneva Motor Show has been a showcase for electric vehicles in recent years, and 2024 is no exception. The Renault Scénic E-Tech has been crowned European Car of the Year, beating out strong competition from the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the Peugeot 3008. Car Of The Year 🏆 The Scénic E-Tech is a spacious and practical electric SUV with a range of up to 625 kilometers. It’s also relatively affordable, with prices starting at just over €40,000 in Europe, under €40,000 in countries with government subsidies. The victory is a major coup for Renault. It’s the seventh time that the French automaker has won the European Car of the Year award, and the first time since 2006. I've rarely put so much of my energy into a car! 3 years ago, when I arrived at Renault, I saw a design “maquette” loosely parked on the side of a big hall in the design department, kind of forgotten: for me, it was obvious that #renault5 had the potential to bring back this company on the main stage! …Pretty much as it had done 50 years ago! Packed with everything Renault has in the guts and everything we love to do: frugal, smart, innovative, eccentric in the good sense of the word! Joyful also. The typical product that the market expects from Renault and where we are excellent. And a formula that nobody had solved before: a car that was at the same time affordable and cool!! That’s what we needed to take the challenge to democratize EV. We have worked hard with the objective to invent the best small EV in the world. The new #renault5 is about Renault projecting itself into the future and reconnecting with millions of Europeans, emotionally, to get them on board for the big switch to electric, connected, and sustainable mobility! Actually, the story goes even further than that! The new Renault 5, it’s also Ampere and the battle to reinvent the European auto industry. It's a car that is made in Europe, in France. In fact, we’ve demonstrated it’s possible, even if others told us that it would never work 😂 So, yes, it’s possible, when you make bold decisions and create disruptive organizations to develop a car in 3 years instead of 4, manufacture it in less than 10 hours, have 75% of your suppliers less than 300 kilometers away, shooting for carbon neutrality in a matter of 2 years…! Today is a momentous day. United Kingdom, meet the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore! Folgore, is Italian for lightning. If you hadn't already worked it out, this means one thing. Maserati's first fully electric vehicle produced is now available to configure and order in the UK. As we enter the electric vehicle space for the first time, lightning has certainly struck. The GranTurismo Folgore is equipped with three 300-kW electric motors, designed for exclusive use by Maserati, which reach higher levels of power density thanks to Formula E technology. The motors are powered by an 800-volt battery, assembled at the Mirafiori Battery Hub assembly plant in Turin, utilising the latest in cutting edge technology. The shape of the battery pack, known as the ‘T-bone’, is another example of the “zero compromise” approach and avoids placing the battery modules under the seats, instead placing them around the central tunnel in a T like shape and therefore considerably lowering the vehicles ride height. #Ferrari's first #electriccar will cost at least €500,000. The news, unconfirmed by #Ferrari, comes as the #luxurycarmaker prepares to inaugurate a new production site in #Maranello, Northern #Italy, on Friday. Based in the town where the firm began making cars, the plant could boost group production by up to a third. #Ferrari is forecasting that approximately 60% of its offer will be #electric or #hybrid cars by 2026. Although #EVs are generally silent, #Ferrariengineers are developing "sound signatures" which will emulate those produced by its famous combustion engines. #ferrari #electriccars #maranello
