A Lesson from 'The Bear' 🐻 During a binge-watch session of 'The Bear' last week, I was fascinated by one character, Tina - an older Latina chef. Years of monotonous work in a greasy Chicago restaurant kitchen left Tina unnoticed, her skills unrefined, and her attitude, understandably, tinged with indignance. But the new Michelin-trained owner and another chef recognize untapped potential in Tina. They send her to culinary school. An act of faith and trust not many would dare. But this act transcended mere skill development. It shattered the barriers of her fear and insecurity, igniting a renewed confidence.🔥 I can't stop thinking about Tina, and others like her. We've all seen and experienced the transformative power of belief. When someone believes in you, it's like a light is turned on in a room you didn't even know was dark. 💡 Who in your orbit is like Tina? Who has potential that’s just waiting to be acknowledged and nurtured? Will you be the one to turn on the light? ✨ Your challenge today: Find a Tina in your world. Offer them your belief, your support, your acknowledgment. You might be unlocking a door to a world of potential they never knew they had. ❤️🩹 #AuthenticLeadership #SuccessMindset #UnlockingPotential

Brilliant as always Rene. I am forever grateful for the people who really saw me and my potential, even before I saw it in myself at times. It is so important to remember those times and repay it by finding your "Tina." Bring them along, be a sponsor, open a door. Every year, I try to sponsor one or two new early career individuals to help them get started. Getting hired into your first career job can be really hard, especially for people without friends or family in the Corporate world to help them. It is so rewarding to pay it back.

Great post René! I love The Bear and especially the episodes with Tina's and Cousin Richie's character development. One thing that I want to contribute to your post is that after many years of being comfortable at their role, Tina and Cousin were very apprehensive and made fun of new tips and rules that were brought into the kitchen by Carmy, the owner. However, they both saw the importance of learning new traits that helped themselves, their team, and the business. Who knew a show with lots of sandwiches and yelling would bring so many great lessons, yes chef!

This is such an awesome post. I really enjoyed The Bear series, but especially appreciate your callout on the importance of believing in people. Thank you, René, for believing in me the first time we met! I'm not sure I would have had the confidence to apply on my own for the job you lined up for me. You made my re-entry into full-time corporate communications so easy. Forever grateful!

The scene that stuck with me is when Cousin was interviewing candidates, and arranged the place setting incorrectly at the table where the candidates sat, passing them over if it didn't drive them crazy. I kept thinking "what's the equivalent I could use to determine extreme attention to detail?"

I love this post, René! There have been so many points in my life where I was able to move into a new opportunity because of someone’s belief in my potential. I truly believe it’s worth investing in someone for their potential. The actualization of an individual’s potential can be extraordinary with the right catalyst.

René - I loved watching that moment when she got prideful about her job. The actress did a great job of changing her posture and her physical SELF to a more present, and team focused person. The character gets more "self" while also being more about her team...it's brilliant!

I love this... Research has proven that as women mature they grow in confidence whilst male confidence decreases. So many untapped powerhouses hidden away everywhere!
