The old/new EU-commission president Ursula von der Leyen must take distinctive efforts to tackle climate change! The parliament recently re-elected von der Leyen as European Commission president. While this marks the start of a new term, the challenges for the EU in tackling climate change remain the same. As time is pressing, the Commission and the new parliament more than ever have to embrace solutions for the energy transition. The #EuropeanUnion's ambitious goals of creating a more climate-friendly world can be significantly advanced by promoting green tech 🌎. It is, therefore, crucial to actively support and promote the development and implementation of cleantech at the EU level. So far, airborne wind has not been considered by European lawmakers. New election term - new chances! As Ursula von der Leyen stated in her recent speech in Strasbourg: "In the first half of this year, 50% of our electricity generation came from renewables – home-grown and clean. Investments in clean technologies in Europe have more than tripled in this mandate... This is the #EuropeanGreenDeal in action. We must be faster and simpler. Because Europe is decarbonizing and industrializing at the same time." The wind is an omnipresent force that spans our entire planet. It is a resource given to us by nature. Advancements in technology have propelled us to a point where we can harness this natural resource to generate energy, thus offering a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. 💚 At SkySails Group, our mission is anchored in fostering sustainability through the utilization of green energy. 💨 The realm of green technology holds promise in reshaping and enhancing our future. An excellent summary from my decarb colleagues of the decarb aspects of the conservative and labour manifestos ahead of the general election. Not much on decarbonising maritime directly 🧐 although oil and gas, offshore wind and other energy infrastructure related commitments can be expected to impact the sector. #decarbonisation #UKelection #shipping

With no surprise Ursula #vonderLeyen is elected by the #EuropeanParliament with 401 votes in favour, 284 against, which is a better score than in 2019 (although that was not difficult). She seems to have given guarantees about the pursuit of the #GreenDeal, but it remains to be seen how that will work, especially in the light of the increase of far-right MEPs, and the push-back against the #GreenDeal witnessed recently. So far, the main point is that she promised a legislative proposal to increase the EU target for reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emmissions, to 90% by 2040, compared to 1990 levels, in order to achieve #Climateneutrality by 2050. The process to appoint the rest of the Commissioners now beggins, and the newly formed Commission is supposed to enter into office on 1st November 2024. https://lnkd.in/epVBcRCg
