An important story: The Coalition and conservative media have attacked CSIRO over its nuclear costa estimates. But as John Quiggin writes, the new Czech nuclear deal shows CSIRO GenCost is way too optimistic, and new nukes are hopelessly uneconomic.. https://lnkd.in/gt4Yhe5v

The prospect of new nuclear at Wylfa moves closer with the Government in initial talks buying the land from Horizon/Hitachi. Following the Nuclear Road Map opening options for a third large-scale nuclear plant acquisition of the land for prospective new investors is a significant step.

GE Hitachi has over 60 years of experience in BWR licensing, fuel, design, manufacturing and building supply chains. It's surprising to learn that the plans to build a nuclear reactor have been canned. One wonders why, as it seemed like a good idea at the time. The five operational nuclear power plants owned by EDF are reaching the end of their operational lives. The country may have to export expensive power from overseas again (and pay to buy back what they already owned) https://lnkd.in/ekHxyutM https://lnkd.in/eP5ny5uN

Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Recent statistics put average lifetime as national. Life expectancy decreased in 2020-2022 for the first time since the mid-1990s. Life expectancy at birth for males was 81.2 years and 85.3 years for females, a decrease of 0.1 years for both. Over the past decade, life expectancy increased by 1.3 years for males and 1.0 years for females.8 Nov 2023 Out of step, out of time. Soon to be decommissioned. It will be interesting as the fission fuel shortage becomes real as they try to treble the industry and advances in the renewables, hydrogen grid variable generation and batteries as a system solution of energy generation for the whole of the world not just 39 countries out of 189 not just the rich but for all without weaponisation, without pollution of our waterways and without the need to bury waste that is dangerous for 1000 of tears what a waste of time you are here. Fission is an interim unlike fusion and renewables, with the grid-attached variable hydrogen generators and batteries which are deploying faster in 189 countries as opposed to the 39 that fission can Fission fuel. It is going to get tight in 100 or 80 years. Which Nuclear fission or fusion? https://lnkd.in/g36Z4k6P
The British government has launched a roadmap for reaching its ambition for the UK to have 24 GWe of nuclear generating capacity by 2050, representing about 25% of the country's projected electricity demand.

Nevertheless, if there’s even a small chance that nuclear power could fill the reliability gap in a 100 per cent clean energy system, a technology-neutral approach requires that all options compete on a level playing field. This is a strong argument (currently favoured by public opinion) for removing Australia’s legislated ban on nuclear power, so the nation can evaluate the best option without one hand tied behind its back. https://lnkd.in/gFhP7rHR

https://lnkd.in/e__zYYcu Could the Republic of Korea's KEPCO be the saviour for a large-scale nuclear power station at Wylfa on Anglesey? This article, taken from the FT today, certainly renews our optimism.

For my nuclear and maritime colleagues: I recommend to get familiar with this high-quality Lloyd's Register report regarding current status and future of the nuclear energy application at sea. This is very interesting area because if and when the application of nuclear reactors in commercial ships goes forward, it will concern many countries, continents and in the end, many of us, living on our beautiful Planet. 🌐 In this regard I see a public perception as one of cornerstones for a more smooth expansion of nuclear applications to the sea, probably even more important than for land-based nuclear energy use. Obtaining a social license for nuclear at sea is a hard but still real task which will require a very systematic and persistent approach in the future endeavors.
Nuclear power could transform the maritime industry by eliminating vessel emissions and the requirement for a bunkering network, as per a recent report by Lloyd’s Register. Check out the details at https://lnkd.in/etUZZyNs #NuclearPower #MaritimeIndustry #LloydsRegister #ShippingRevolution
Nuclear energy could be as transformational to shipping as shift from sail to steam, says LR

#Wylfa has long been one of the enclaves planned for the construction of the #UK's new fleet of #NuclearReactors... Nevertheless, for one reason or the other, while other sites progress, the #Welsh site remains stagnant, but this can finally change... It looks like Great British Nuclear, the nuclear body owned by the #UK state, is in early stage discussions to buy the land back from Hitachi, this is linked to the interest of new potential buyers such as Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Will finally #Wylfa able to start the construction of a #NuclearPowerPlant???

Nuclear power has re-emerged as part of our energy debate with the Federal Opposition proposing a coal-to-nuclear transition, reigniting a more than 70-year discussion on whether or not Australia should adopt nuclear power. To help explain this debate, the AEC took a deep dive into the potted history of nuclear energy in Australia. https://lnkd.in/gXzA-hRn
