As electric vehicles (EVs) charge into the mainstream, the United States is paving the way for a more sustainable future. However, while President Biden set ambitious EV targets for the nation, the focus has primarily been on cars even as studies show that electric car adoption alone isn't enough to meet climate goals. Micro-mobility options such as e-bikes are crucial to reducing car dependency and states and metro areas are primarily leading on this front.

In the race to curb climate emissions by switching to electric vehicles, we need to target “Gasoline Superusers.”  These are the top 10% of drivers in terms of their gasoline use - using more than 5 times the gasoline of other drivers. Atlanta is heading into ‘Ozone Season’ and ARC and Georgia’s Clean Air Force want to share ways for residents to reduce pollution from vehicle emissions. The City of Atlanta and ARC are partnering to offer an e-bike rebate program designed to provide affordable transportation options for moderate and low-income individuals. Added benefits of the incentive program include reducing traffic & improving air quality. ARC plans to implement the installation of 300-400 electric vehicle charging ports in Atlanta communities where EV charging opportunities are scarce. Motorists who drive non-electric vehicles can also help reduce air pollution in the metro area. Driving fewer total miles means fewer pollutants enter the air. By combining errands, working remotely, & choosing commuting options other than single-occupant vehicles, Georgians can contribute to a healthier environment. Following a vehicle’s recommended maintenance schedule is another great way to reduce noxious exhaust and ensure a passing emissions inspection.
