Exciting News! 🎉 We are thrilled to announce RennelCo was accepted into the Ontario RAISE grant program and the Canada Digital Adoption Program! The RAISE grant provides Black and Indigenous business owners with training, coaching and $10,000 towards developing their businesses. The Canada Digital Adoption program offers two grants and access to advisors to help small businesses incorporate technology and set-up e-commerce! Between RennelCo and the Black Birth Project, I’ve learned how to write successful grant applications and create a basic toolkit to apply more efficiently! Our Grant Writing Toolkit checklist, created by our intern Fariah Rahman, was developed to give small business owners a starting point to secure the funding they need!

Founder Who Helps Investors Discern Which Entrepreneurs to Fund | Fractional Officer Who Grows Revenue $0 To $350M ARR & Transforms @13% CMGR | Management Professor | Advisory | Execution | Strategy
CHAPTER 5 PART B - MY ARRIVAL IN THE MOTOR CITY - THE 1ST TIME When 9th grade came, it was still in the middle school, due to high school capacity, but you could take Latin. A former Spanish professor’s son, I was compelled to take at least two years. So I bussed to high school & then back to the middle school before 2nd period started. In Latin, I learned fundraising. Latin Club needed funds for Junior Classical League trips so we sold Kiss-O-Grams (Hershey) & candy. I got boxes of M&Ms, loaded them into an attache case, & returned to West Middle School daily. Looking nerdy with an out-of-place attache case, the kids would ask what I had. I’d say “you wanna see?”, open it up, & bammo, with no vending machines in the school, I was a hit. At $0.50 a box, they’d buy up everything, multiple times a day. I became the best, highest grossing fundraiser Latin Club had ever seen. I did this an entire semester. And I was pumped. Loved by classmates (fellow students, potential and actual customers). Little did I know, I was planting the seeds of human connection, learning the 4 now 5Ps of marketing, long before I’d hit UT Austin, and selling. And I loved it. Never thought about doing sales & marketing as a career at the time. As high school went on, I thought about becoming an international tax attorney. So I would end up business pre-law at UT Austin, and take a lot of accounting and economics, along with all the Spanish. But more on all that later. I hope you’ve gotten a laugh out of today’s chapter, and I’ll be back next week. Enjoy your weekend, and as always, keep it crankin’. #latin #language #fundraising #vendingmachines #4ps #merchandising #marketing #placement #promotion #candy #pricing #hershey #sales

Are you a small organisation struggling to stand out in your grant applications? The larger organisations have a huge advantage: ⭕ Their existing track record, reputation and brand ⭕ More experience or resources to write a better application But as a smaller organisation you have an opportunity to standout by talking about how you'll solve the problem, showcase your organisation's unique perspective and flair, and how you'll work with the grantmaker to deliver a great outcome with the funding. Don't count yourself out just because of the competition — some funders are open to supporting smaller organisations, and how you craft your story in the grant application could be the game-changer.
