Hi folks, I'm currently planning a really practical resource blog on ways to improve access, inclusion, engagement and outreach, predominantly in theatres. The blog will feature tips I've learned across the arts, education and charity sectors, as well as research from my MA, and some tips from specialists in the fields of access and engagement. If you have any questions or issues you're facing which this blog might be able to help with, please send them my way!

At The Phoenix Collective, 🌟 We want to hear from **YOU**. In a world where it can feel like no one is listening, *we will*. Your story, your struggles, your hopes, and your dreams are important, and they matter deeply to us. 💫 ✨ You can now share them with us—whether through letters or videos—at **letters@phoenixcollective.net** ✨ At The Phoenix Collective, we believe that from the deepest struggles, the most radiant strength can emerge. Our mission is to reignite hope, helping those who’ve faced life’s hardest challenges rise from the ashes and reclaim their power. We’re here to support, uplift, and transform lives with the tools and guidance needed to rebuild and soar. And in a world where so many feel forgotten, we go beyond traditional charity, offering unconditional support to anyone in need. Because within every setback lies the potential for an extraordinary comeback. 🌍 The phoenix—a mythical creature consumed by flames, only to rise again stronger and more majestic—is at the heart of everything we stand for. In every person who feels defeated or lost, there is a phoenix waiting to rise and reclaim life. Everyone deserves a chance to rise again, and we are here to help make that possible in any way we can. We’re committed to keeping your stories confidential, unless you give us explicit permission to share. This is your space to be heard and supported. 💌 No situation is too dire, no one is beyond saving. The phoenix doesn’t rise despite the flames, but because of them. And together, we will rise. 🔥 #thephoenixcollective #risingphoenix #yourstorymatters #listeningear #support #community #wearehereforyou #shareyourstory #togetherwerise #beyondboundaries

Passionate leader driving economic development & transformational change initiatives with Social Innovation, entrepreneurial equity, & ingenuity. Enabled by integrated systems with research, business, and policy.
“I’m built different”- is my 12yr old son’s response to any and every compliment. And you know what, he is. We all are. You know what else is?? Innovations that are needed to close gaps, make a difference, and change lives. We have been wildly successful (check our data) at this. But the best part, we get to also support community organizations by making connections, providing business and innovation guidance, serving on boards, and showing up wherever they need us. At the Lexington Children's Theatre, we provide an educational space and creative outlet for all children, we provide sensory shows, and we meet our communities how they need us. As our friends at Capital One say: what’s in your wallet?? So- What are you ready for? Ready to join us for Investment lab? Are you ready to launch your innovation? Nurture an idea? Or catalyze the next great idea to change lives? We’re ready for you. Let us know how we can help you.
Happy #SocialInnovationWednesday! Building on last week's focus on our Community Engagement pillar, today we're highlighting the Lexington Children's Theatre (LCT). LCT is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the intellectual and cultural growth of young minds. Their mission is to create imaginative theatrical experiences tailored for young people and families. Our Social Innovation team has proudly supported LCT by facilitating collaborations with research leaders from the University of Kentucky. Through these partnerships, LCT has gained access to industry expertise, enhancing its programs and initiatives. This synergy between academia and the broader community not only enriches local cultural endeavors but also generates meaningful social impact. Learn more: http://bit.ly/48NlSpi

A day later, a little stiff and with at least one bruised foot (who knew there we still many cobbled pathways in London?!), I find myself in reflective mood. Back in 2018, I was diagnosed with transverse myelitis – with swelling between the upper vertebrae that had no defined cause or reason for being that was ever discovered. It lasted approximately 18 months and then faded almost as suddenly as it arrived. There were no outward signs, but I had hugely depleted energy levels, effectively my body was running on a drained battery the whole time. One of the many tests conducted at the time revealed that I am more susceptible to developing MS than most of the population. I got lost in that for quite some time, losing will and motivation… When Covid hit, and the country went into lockdown I was coming out the other side of this and threw myself into exercise, lost the excess weight I’d put on and reclaimed my sense of self. It didn’t last. I allowed complacency and ennui get in the way of my own care; the world was in decline (maybe still is), in the big scheme of things did it really matter whether I maintained a healthy lifestyle? … Ultimately, I justified bad excuses to live differently. Then, in May last year, I joined Central YMCA and it quickly became apparent that it really did matter, not just on an individual basis, but on a societal one. Physical activity levels have dropped consistently across the population since the 1960s, it costs the UK economy billions in additional healthcare each year and countless lives are lost or impacted as result. On a global scale the issues are even worse – and whilst there are dozens of factors a lot of it comes down to (I think) access and education, and a defined policy that demands those two things are universally available. What we do matters. What we do to assist those who cannot help themselves, or that face the many barriers society has placed in their way, really matters. We cannot stop, we cannot give up, until every individual has access to safe surroundings and the means, appropriate to their need, to engage in physical activity. (Still time to donate, https://lnkd.in/dsw_QPUR, I’ll close out this page in early February and set it up for the next challenge – the Easter 50k – but there’s be a lot going on between now and then – more to follow on that in the next week or two!) #fundraising #movementforgood #physicalactivity #getmoving #upsanddowns
