I hate airports but I LOVE the southern US ones. Why? It’s always 15-20 mins (TOPS) from front door to gate, the employees are always cheerful and cracking jokes, they mind their manners, and they’re always respectful and polite when I tell them I’m Canadian. To draw a parallel, I hit a “northern” US state air travel location…. • The lines are astronomically longer (airports are bigger but keep reading). • The staff/TSA are almost always in a neutral or objectively “bad” mood ushering folks through, ironically, like cattle. • They make me take off my damned shoes and belt. The south rarely, if ever, does this. Wonder if this is because these folks actually understand and have an affinity for “weaponry”. • They take unusually longer to process lines, seemingly, in an attempt to throttle the flow of bodies. • The other airport attendees, as a result of these experiences, are often more frigid with strangers. Anyone else have a similar experience or am I out to lunch?

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has broken a new record after screening the most people ever in a single day. On Sunday, July 7, the agency processed 3,013,413 travelers at U.S. airports – which works out to be nearly 35 passengers every second! The new peak comes just weeks after the TSA set a record just shy of 3 million screenings, which was achieved on June 23. In fact, eight of the ten busiest air travel days in the history of the TSA happened between May 23 and July 7 of this year. From CAT-2 to TSA Precheck Touchless ID, advancements in biometric screening technology are bolstering aviation security and streamlining operations at airports nationwide, and are widely supported by travelers. However, a dangerous FAA amendment by Senators Merkley and Kennedy threatens to ban TSA's use of these new technologies—risking longer security lines, reduced security and millions in wasted taxpayer dollars. In a time when our global competitors are embracing new technologies to improve travel, the U.S. can’t afford to adopt regressive policies that stifle innovation and our global competitiveness. U.S. Travel thanks Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for its collaboration and partnership in building a more seamless and secure travel experience.
