🤖 Am I allowed to say generative AI is just ok? Team RR is in the middle of a 6-week block of learning about various generative AI tools to find the best ways we can use the tech to work for us and the alliances we serve. Between half a dozen courses and lots of trial and error, I have to admit: I don’t feel super-powered yet.

I'm excited to announce the publication of my latest article: "A Generative AI Self-Cloning Guide." This deep dive explores the fascinating (and sometimes mind-bending!) world of creating your own AI clone. We'll delve into the potential of generative AI for building a digital you. We'll also discuss foundation models, explore the surprising similarities between tuning a model and training a puppy (yep, talking about training puppies too 😂), and provide a step-by-step example of end-to-end model fine-tuning. Head over to my Medium blog (https://lnkd.in/g8KsbmsS ) to explore the guide and join the conversation. Don't forget to share your thoughts and any questions you have about AI self-cloning. Remember, this journey is all about exploration and learning together! Let's keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI. https://lnkd.in/g8KsbmsS #llm #modeltraining #SFT #finetuning #googlecloud #vertexai

I help people learn and grow through the power of words, visuals and AI. There is always a better way.
May I present the inaugural batch of participants for the Straits Times Masterclass on Generative AI! And oh yes, our friendly green dragon too (created in Midjourney)! It was a lively group of participants, with ages ranging from Gen Z to the Pioneer Generation, coming from a wide array of industries. We kicked off the workshop by exploring the staggering text-to-video capabilities of OpenAI's Sora. We found out together why ChatGPT never gives the same answer twice. We then learned how to use ChatGPT and Microsoft Image Creator to reduce our workload and solve difficult problems. For the final problem-solving exercise, I asked everyone to vote on a range of common challenges, such as writing CVs, marketing new products, or creating a personal brand on LinkedIn. I was surprised when the vote went to 'How to respond kindly to unreasonable people.' And that's exactly what we tackled, learning advanced prompting methods in the process! I loved the questions the participants asked me; they prompted me to think more deeply about the impact of Generative AI in our daily lives. It was a fantastic session, and at the close of the day, I told everyone, "The workshop doesn't end here. You can always find me on LinkedIn!" A big thank you to the Straits Times team for giving me the opportunity to help people get introduced to the most important technology of our times. FYI, if you are keen to upskill in Generative AI, the next ST Masterclass will be on 8th May. Please check out the link in the comments if you are interested in finding out more --- I help people learn and grow through the power of words, visuals and AI.

🚀 Exciting AI Update: OpenAI's Q-Star Unveiled! What the next GPT Version will bring: Recent leaks reveal intriguing details about OpenAI's new project, Q-Star, under the codename "STRAWBERRY." This project combines innovative AI techniques to enhance performance and decision-making capabilities. 🆕 WHATS NEW & DIFFERENT? 🔹 Q-Learning Integration: Q-Star incorporates Q-learning, a reinforcement learning method that helps AI systems make better decisions by learning from rewards and penalties. This makes Q-Star adaptive and capable of improving over time based on new data and interactions. 🔹 A* Algorithm: This algorithm helps find the most efficient path to a goal, which can be applied to complex problem-solving scenarios. In combination with Q-learning, it enables Q-Star to optimize decision-making processes in various applications. 🔹 Self-Taught Reasoner (STaR): Q-Star uses the STaR technique to generate internal rationales for its decisions, enhancing its reasoning abilities without needing task-specific training. This makes Q-Star more adept at handling complex and diverse tasks. ❓ WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? 🔸 Enhanced Decision-Making: The combination of Q-learning and the A* algorithm allows Q-Star to optimize decision-making processes, making it useful for various industries from logistics to finance. 🔸 Adaptive Learning: Q-Star’s ability to learn and adapt from new data even after the model training ensures it stays relevant and improves over time, offering long-term benefits for continuous improvement. 🔸 Complex Problem Solving: The STaR technique enhances Q-Star’s capability to tackle complex problems by generating thoughtful rationales for its actions, making it valuable for research and development in AI. 🛠️ Where would you use it? #AI #Innovation #OpenAI #FutureTech #DecisionMaking #QStar

Key Idea: AI (and any IT tool) can be changed quickly, while other parts of organizations change more slowly, because they are more foundational. Key Quote Why: Fast gets all our attention and slow has all the power.” based on Stewart Brand in his magnificent “How Buildings Learn.” Full article is full of insights and worth an in-depth read. Have fun! 😀
AI is fast. Automation is slow. Can they meet? Recent studies show we can get better results by using generative AI. But to get them at scale, our organizations would have to change, and that's slow and difficult. genAI itself may change all that. New Substack post with shoutouts to new work from Nick Otis, Bob Sutton, Andrew McAfee, Erik Brynjolfsson, and Daniel Rock. https://lnkd.in/gseURFuf

"There’s a big difference between machine learning and 'machine thinking.'” And quite frankly, the minute we start looking at AI as machine thinking, we’re in trouble, because it means we’ve tried to outsource our own critical thinking and problem solving skills to a machine that is only replicating and regurgitating information it has gathered."
