During my 11 months at Alaska Airlines as a ramp agent, I started the job knowing very little about airplanes beyond takeoff and landing. I've come to appreciate that what seemed like a daunting job is manageable with the right mindset. Humor, teamwork, and creativity—while always prioritizing safety—have been crucial. Here are three key lessons I've learned:
Firstly, first impressions are vital. Building rapport from the outset with fellow ramp agents can make all the difference. A simple smile can foster a welcoming atmosphere that enhances teamwork and camaraderie.
Secondly, a strong work ethic is non-negotiable. Maintaining a positive mindset ensures not only personal success but also sets a high standard that benefits the entire team. It's about being reliable and striving for excellence every day.
Lastly, maintaining positive relationships is essential. Instead of reacting impulsively in challenging moments, showing grace and gratitude fosters respect and long-term cooperation among colleagues.
These lessons have shaped my approach to work and enriched my experience at Alaska Airlines . I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in such a dynamic environment.
