The Global Think Tank report discovered that “Only 26% of respondents feel that family business boards are sufficiently diverse.” We know that to create long term sustainability within a business, we need to see more diversity in the boardroom. Charlie has a unique take on this topic, as quoted in the report: “I believe that the size of the family business has a bearing on the awareness of the benefit of diverse opinions in the boardroom. Recognition of that belief has a long way to go. In addition, leadership development in certain industry verticals as well as through family generational engagement programmes will need to bear fruit to provide a larger pool of qualified, diverse candidates.” It’s imperative for family business boards to seek new candidates that can offer new perspectives and expertise.
