Recently I’ve been reflecting on my portfolio that I haven’t touched since I graduated college. While I love college me and everything she accomplished, I don’t think she had the most well-developed ideas when it came to designing her portfolio or being consistent on updating it. I’m going to give her some slack though since it was her first time trying to build a website. After looking at so many portfolios of my peers, mentors, and role models, I have a better idea of what I want mine to look like and specific details that make a huge impact on the overall appearance of a portfolio. 🥸One of the first flaws I noticed in my portfolio was the lack of an about me page. At first I thought it was good to not show me and let the work speak for itself, but after some research and reading about what hiring managers are looking for, personality seemed to be a big component in their search. About me pages are also a great way to incorporate your personal branding into a full page of work. 💚Another flaw I noticed was the color of my website as a whole. I wanted to be big and bold and forgot that small things can sometimes be the most impactful. I chose to make the background of my website green, and while I love green, I didn’t take into consideration how the green would look with every colored piece of design on my page. Choosing a white or cream background with green accents would be a much better way to incorporate some color into my work. 🖼️This last one is just a personal preference, but I want to get rid of the words on my home page. I want a clean look and want the images to speak for themselves and I think a good way to do that is to move the titles of projects so they appear when a viewer hovers over a project. That also adds more animation to the page and makes it more interactive for the viewer. Reflection and goal setting is always important before embarking on any project. And if you’re curious here’s the link to my portfolio sans any updates (those will be coming very soon :) https://lnkd.in/g6kjsHWG

The new Canva ads are design-vine! While, the launch video ‘Farewell Made Special’ is a 6-minute tearjerker, the real gems are the bite-sized historical treats disguised as ads as part of the ‘The Hysterical Historical Cafe’. From Pythagoras’ wedding invitation, to Egypt’s Pharaoh as a client being pitched the pyramids (Idea genesis: bread pakora), to the (W)Right brothers first flight, they’ve cooked up a dozen (12 ads) 30-second spots, each showcasing a different Canva feature. It’s like the café serving a buffet of design tools: you've got your Design dish, Eraser entree, Media main course, Collaboration casserole, and don't forget the Presentation pie for dessert! As a life-long student of history, I'm geeking out over these. My top picks? 1. "Presenting the Pyramids" - It is Pharaoh-natic! 2. "Queenly Chronicles" - Woh Stree Hain, kuch bhi kar sakti hain! 3. "Past and Future" - Time-travel! 4. "On the Fly with Wright Brothers" - There’s nothing Wrong with it! Great copy, decent production and snappy edits. Good stuff Canva India team! "Dil Se Design Tak" is an absolute ‘Blast from the Past’! YouTube Playlist: Linked Below! #Advertising #Brands #Canva
