Did you know? 17,000 adults and children were identified as potential victims of modern slavery in the UK in 2022, a 33% increase from the previous year. (Source: The Centre for Social Justice) The true number is estimated to be much higher, with some organizations suggesting up to 100,000 people trapped in modern slavery in the UK. (Source: Anti-Slavery International) Modern slavery takes many forms, from forced labour and exploitation to sexual exploitation and domestic servitude. It can happen anywhere, even in the UK. Delighted to have published our new report today setting out 6 clear recommendations for the next Government as to how to reset the country’s response to modern slavery in the first year after the election. Firstly, we need to get 3 key principles right: 1. Modern slavery is fundamentally not an issue of immigration. It is a crime against a person and needs to be dealt with as a serious crime. 2. Victim support is key to prosecuting perpetrators and putting an end to modern slavery. 3.
