🧠How do we fully grasp the value and potential of detention houses? RESCALED believes we need to look beyond the observable features of small-scale, differentiated and community-integrated detention houses (like their scale or location) and consider all dimensions of their ecosystem. We introduce this ecosystem approach and how this can be applied to justice reform in our newest blog post 📃: https://lnkd.in/dv3Kidta This blog is part of the INSPIRE project (Incarceration & Social Purpose in Restorative Cities) which is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. #BlogPost #DetentionHouse #KnowledgeWorkspaces #JusticeReform #RESCALED #INSPIREProject #EcoSystem

Did you know? 17,000 adults and children were identified as potential victims of modern slavery in the UK in 2022, a 33% increase from the previous year. (Source: The Centre for Social Justice) The true number is estimated to be much higher, with some organizations suggesting up to 100,000 people trapped in modern slavery in the UK. (Source: Anti-Slavery International) Modern slavery takes many forms, from forced labour and exploitation to sexual exploitation and domestic servitude. It can happen anywhere, even in the UK. We are committed to eliminating modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and similar human rights abuses. #modernslavery

Modern slavery in the UK involves exploitation through coercion, deception, or abuse, leading to forced labor, servitude, or human trafficking across various industries. #Refugees and #asylumseekers are particularly vulnerable due to uncertain legal status, economic challenges, language barriers, trauma, and lack of support networks. Combatting this requires a comprehensive approach: 🟢 Access to legal aid and support. 🟠 Safe housing and essential services. 🟡 Stronger protections against exploitation. ⚪ Training and awareness for frontline workers. 🟢 Community engagement and empowerment. CIAC offers pro bono services for cases of #slavery and #trafficking. Reach out to us for more information. For broader concerns about modern #slavery and #exploitation, contact Unseen & the Modern Slavery Helpline at 08000 121 700 or visit their website to report concerns online. ☎️ #ImmigrationSupport #EthicalGuidance #CommunityEmpowerment #UKImmigration #CIAC #CommunitySupport

Delighted to have published our new report today setting out 6 clear recommendations for the next Government as to how to reset the country’s response to modern slavery in the first year after the election. Firstly, we need to get 3 key principles right: 1. Modern slavery is fundamentally not an issue of immigration. It is a crime against a person and needs to be dealt with as a serious crime. 2. Victim support is key to prosecuting perpetrators and putting an end to modern slavery. 3. Partnership with the voluntary and private sector is required to strengthen the fight against modern slavery. Read our full report on our web-site 👇🏻
"Once a global leader in the fight against modern slavery, the UK has made significant steps backwards... the next government has a unique opportunity and a duty to put things right." 🗣️Tatiana Gren-Jardan, Head of #ModernSlavery at Justice and Care and The Centre for Social Justice 📚Read our report👇 https://lnkd.in/e9EZzcgX

1. Is the existing paradigm of reparations responsive to the predicament of land grab cases in post-conflict, developing countries like Bermuda? 2. How can BERMUDA provide reparations for victims of massive human rights violations like land grabs while addressing the problem of widespread poverty and historic landgrabs itself? 3. What should the international community do or not do to make reparations not only available for victims like those in land grabs but meaningful for developing countries that are seeking both transitional justice and development?
