🚨 URGENT: REACT DC in Crisis – 100 Refugees Need Your Help! 🚨 The U.S. government’s Stop Work Order has suspended funding for refugee support, leaving our life-saving, humanitarian organization in a desperate situation. Since October, REACT DC has resettled nearly 100 individuals, the majority from Afghanistan—men and women who kept our service members safe for 20 years. Now, they need us. Without immediate donations, these families risk losing their homes, jobs, and stability. Is homelessness how we repay them? We refuse to let that happen—but we can’t do it alone. 💙 Help us protect the 100 refugees who need us now. 💙 🔗 www.reactdc.org/donate 📢 Donate, share, and take action today! #RefugeesWelcome #StandWithRefugees #REACTDC #WeOweThem #NoOneLeftBehind

I think often of the passage in the Book of Matthew where Jesus of Nazareth describes who is invited into the Kingdom he heralded. It is not the people who accomplished the most, who earned the most money, who accumulated the most power. It is not the people who had the right checklist of beliefs. Rather, it is those who welcomed the stranger and fed the hungry. Whether you are a person of faith or not, I think there's a profound truth in this message: to serve someone in need is to recognize and respect their humanity, and that we have a common bond with others simply because of that humanity. (The same humanity that reflects that we are all equally created in the image of God). Right now, refugees are facing a dire situation due to the stop work order, which has frozen funding that is intended to pay for food and rent. Resettlement Action DC (REACT DC) urgently needs your help to support our new neighbors in the DMV area, the majority of whom are from Afghanistan. We cannot, and will not, allow them to face homelessness. Please consider donating to help us continue to provide housing, food assistance, and employment support to those who have fled a violent regime to find a safe haven.

🚨 Urgent Update from REACT DC Late Friday, the State Department unexpectedly issued a stop worker order for all resettlement-related activities. This unprecedented decision directly impacts our ability to provide essential services to refugees, including food, housing, and community support. But here’s the truth: we’re not stopping. For over 3 years, we’ve stood with refugees, and we’re not backing down now. We’ll be in the office, doing everything we can to support these incredible individuals, whether funding comes through or not. Refugees enrich our communities. Afghan arrivals, in particular, helped keep American troops safe for 20 years. Now, it’s our turn to stand by them. We need your help to keep going. Please consider making a donation to sustain our vital work during this challenging time. Together, we can continue providing hope and stability to those who need it most. 💙 Donate here: www.reactdc.org/donate 🌍 Your support makes a world of difference. #SupportRefugees #CommunityStrong #TogetherWeThrive

Since the war in #Sudan started last year nearly five million children – approximately the entire population of Ireland - have been forced from their homes. There are now more forcibly displaced children from Sudan than any other country. Tragically, these children are not just fleeing unimaginable violence and terror. With famine conditions declared in Sudan, millions of children are currently at risk of starving to death. Many more are at risk of becoming victims of rape and sexual violence. We are heartbroken and appalled by widespread reports that girls and young women have taken their own lives as a result of this. An entire generation of children’s lives have been devastated in Sudan. We must act now. To help us reach children who have lost their livelihoods to this war – both within Sudan and in neighbouring countries hosting Sudanese refugees – donate to Plan International UK’s emergency appeal ➡️ https://bit.ly/3UbBaPv Every child deserves to live a life free from terror, violence and hunger. https://lnkd.in/ehxhjMty

🗣️ "If we want refugees to flourish, we must give them a chance to move from being ‘strangers’ to ‘neighbours’. Lifting the ban would play a crucial role towards this." Our Executive Director David Mason spoke to the Evening Standard about why we must grant the right to work to people seeking asylum. As David outlined, the current situation - where most people seeking asylum are prevented from working, and forced to rely on very limited statutory support - is trapping many in poverty and pushing them into destitution. People seeking asylum in the UK get just £7 per day in Home Office support and only £8.86 a week if they are accommodated in a hotel. This also means than most new refugees have no financial safety net to rely on when they receive refugee status. Lifting the ban would be an important step towards giving displaced people a fair chance in the UK. Read the full article to learn why you should back this campaign ⬇️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJ6vzxaC

The Somali Community Self-Management Agency in Salt Lake City is a comprehensive support organization dedicated to helping African refugees, especially those from Somalia and Sudan, integrate into local communities and achieve self-sufficiency. Abdirizak shared that many Somali refugees arrive in Utah with nothing, escaping the horrors of civil war and violence. They often come with debt and, once employed, send much of their earnings back home to support their families. Osman Mohamed, who manages the Dahabshiil Aid Agency in the same building, emphasized the importance of the Somali Center. "It feels like home for them here. They talk with people they know in the refugee community, stay connected to their homeland, and discuss the challenges they encounter in America. Staying positive and happy is crucial," he said. 2KUTV Pay It Forward, sponsored by Mountain America, donated $500 to support Abdirizak and the daily needs at the facility. Severe Weather in Kakuma: Six Days of Rain In Kakuma Refugee Camp, the community has been facing an unusual weather pattern. For the past six days, relentless rainfall has caused significant damage to homes and properties. Many families have lost their shelters, struggling to cope with the aftermath of this severe weather. This situation is a reminder of the resilience of the people in Kakuma, but also of the urgent need for support and assistance. The heavy rains have disrupted daily life, and many are left vulnerable, without a place to call home. We call on humanitarian organizations, local authorities, and kind-hearted individuals to come together and provide assistance to those in need. Whether it’s donating materials, offering shelter, or providing essential supplies, every bit helps in rebuilding and supporting the community through this difficult time. To mark Refugee Week we’re looking back at our partnership with RSG (Refugee Support Group), a charitable organisation which aims to reduce poverty, suffering and social isolation of people who have already faced unimaginable hardship. As a charitable organisation, with no access to legal aid and no funding to commission human interpreters, the RSG faced significant challenges in breaking down the language barriers with the people they help. We donated a Pocketalk device to help the 5,000 to 10,000 refugees living in the community that the charity operates in. Typically almost all refugees (around 99%), will not speak English as a first language. Often the RSG can be faced with extremely complicated asylum cases and progressing these cases will involve complex and difficult situations. With 84 languages covered in one Pocketalk device, it meant that in just six months, the Pocketalk device had been used in over 60 instances with clients – at least three times a week – and, more than half of those cases would have required a qualified interpreter. This resulted in a cost saving of over £1,000, in just a few months. This is crucial for organisations such as RSG, which rely solely on the public’s donations and support. If you think we could help your organisation, get in touch. #RefugeeWeek #RefugeeSupport #EAL
